car knocks bad over 23psi.

hey guys i have the modifications in my signature and i have been told that my head gasket might be bad or going bad. the car got tuned to about 23psi which is extremely low for what i have. As soon as they crank up the boost the car knocks really bad...my coolant overflow tank level does go down a little but then it stops dropping. i dont have overheating issues but before i remove the whole friggen head....can there be any other problems to cause this?

Possibly the tune is too aggressive? What's your timing map look like? What afr's at WOT?

when he was tuning it everything was good....i dont know what the exact numbers were for AFR's and timing, but as soon as he tried to crank up the boost the car would knock really bad. can it be a bad injector or spark plug? or would he have told me if it was that easy?

You would know if it were a bad injector and how old are your plugs? Maybe check the gap and see how they are. Any misfiring issues?

That's what I'm thinking... 9/10 times it's due to timing...

Who is tuning it, or attempting to?

plugs are a year old....and no misfiring....im not knowledgeable enough about the timing and all of that stuff to tell you what it was...but what do you mean by aggressive if its only tuned at 23psi?

get yourself a new tuner. I am with everyone else with it most likely being too much timing.

Best tuner around? Around here or around you? Don't feel like you are obligated to being tuned by a local. We have the technology to have your car tuned by anyone around the world.

There have been reports that those cams of yours cause phantom knock issues. An expert tuner would be able to verify that with a good look over at your plugs and scope out your chamber for signs of real knock.

You could desensitize your knock sensor with a tune but its honestly a bit dangerous without real confirmation of the knock.

If your knock counts are as high as your making them i'd pull the plugs look for signs of detonation and put a scope in the chamber to inspect the engine.

Good luck man.

thanks i appreciate it! i would change the cams if that is the case...i dont feel like it though haha...im sick of putting parts in my car

as far as the tuners...i haven't heard anything bad about either of them and i am confident it is not tuner related

What we mean is that we think your timing is too far advanced and right at it's threshold so when you turn up the boost, it creates more load, air flow, etc and pushes it beyond that threshold.

I'm not sure but wasn't there a recent thread about the phantom knock issues? I forgot all about that.
