service engine light
service engine light
my brother just bought a evo 9mr with 32k miles clean car. all it has is k/n air intake turboback exhuast and better clutch. we just notice when we step on it or when the turbo is spooling the servive engine light blinks at us. is it because theres not tune done with it with those parts or what do you guys think.
Thanks!
Thanks!
If you have too much air going inside the engine and not enough fuel you'll knock. You can also knock if your running too rich. If you have bad gas or ur not tuned right, the engine will knock and the computer will retard timing to compensate meaning youll lose power.
If you search you can find many threads about knock.

Chances are the OP's car WAS tuned for mods that are no longer on the car. Most likely it was put back to stock or nearly stock and traded in. Just my .02

Im fairly certain the car has a Tephra patch in it. If its a slow blink you are probly fine, I only lift if it blinks fast. What gas did you put in? if it was tuned on 93 and you fill up with 91 you would probly get the light. My advice is to just get the car tuned anyway because who knows what mods were removed or changed.
yea i thinkt he tephra reads 3 counts of knock when it flashes slow then 8 counts and starts to pull from timing when it flashes fast. I am not certain of this but it happens on my car sometimes as well.
I got the service engine light and then my car will not rev past 4K rpm it also feels very sluggish. It would just cut off. Before this it drove fine and then I parked it for about a month. My car is stock except for an ARC intake.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

^^^ That will do nothing for the tune, you have to get the car retuned for it to run right. The Tephra mod is on the car for a reason, the previous owner must of had a tune with the mods that were on the car. I would really think about getting the car retuned before something goes wrong.
