Do axlebacks work?

I just bought a used axleback, you know - the muffler. There were some posts about how they can reduce the boost level by a pound or so. I can understand that adding a boost controller would be a solution but I want to keep my car basically stock. So I have 2 questions:

1. Will a brand name axleback make any extra power on a stock EVO?

2. Same question as above except factor in a Dynoflash. I am scheduled to get one at the end of the month.

Thanks. It turns out that the used one I bought is a Pruven and to show its a small world, the guy I bought it from turns out to be the same guy who gave you so much grief recently.

Looking forward to meeting you on the 29th.

Do you have any boost control on the car at all ????

When you add a axel back you loose boost so the power gains are nominal - but alsways good to make same or slightly more hp at same a lower boost point !

The way to really wake up the axel back is witha HKS EVC V boost controller

ferraro kid went 119 mph with it and Pruven made 340 to the wheels also with the same axel back system

We like to package it with the K & N pannel filter and the HKS EVC V- a nice set up with the Dyno Flash

EDIT: rereading your post I see you want to stay basically stock - if thats the case consider the K & N fillter its a nice 5 whp gain

Like Al said, you're gonna need a boost controller/boost gauge. With my muffler delete pipe I was making 16psi and with the mbc I'm back to 19psi

BTW, you're gonna love the DynoFlash

We have both the muffler deletes (3.7 pounds) and the axlebacks (6.4 pounds) instock. Fully stainless and mandrel bent.

Check it out,

I finally got around to installing the used Pruven muffler today. Couldn't notice any power difference with the butt dyno. The sound level was very moderate - almost as quiet as stock at idle and slow cruising. At 75 there you can notice more noise but it's not objectionable because it doesn't resonate/boom in the cabin.

Al, is the K & N a standard drop in? I heard the Ralliart drop in is a good replacement of the original paper filter, have you tried that? I am using a Trust foam filter and thinking of buying a better one.

I know people keeps saying that you do loose some boost when you put a bigger exhaust system. I put a RMR cat-back system on my EVO and I have a Defi boost gauge and from what I see on the gauge, I loose only 1 lb. Am I just lucky? I was thinking of getting a MBC but if I am loosing only a pound of boost, why bother. Any way just my $.02

My car runs 1.35 bar boost with no boost controler and a JIC cat back exhaust. The catback is the only mod, How does an axel back reduce boost?
