This is what it looks like when you have an aftermarket intake manifold and HKS 272s:

And the timeslip of 10.7@132mph goes along with it.

No more torque falloff. Of course, this is a 1G DSM engine with a 1G DSM head and an SBR GT-13 turbo.

Oh, and just to stop the question before it is asked, the car in the above post probably hasn't seen pump gas in a year.

Did you just drop the hammer @5000 rpm's, or is it just that flat below 5000? I mean, there is nothing below 5000. I am not trying to join in the pissing frey, just curious. Also, how much do you think would be lost on pump gas, say 93? I take a road trip every 4 to 6 weeks to go off and find some good winding roads (around Dallas it's flat as a mirror) and I would not always have access to high octane, and the way a high hp Evo will burn through that stupid small tank of gas, this is a concern.

That isn't my dyno. That is Leon Reitman's car, who has been a serious DSMer for years now. He is the guy who ran an 11.8 on a 14B turbo last year.

And his car is focused on drag racing, and he never launches lower than 5000RPM, so he didn't care about the power down there. So he just hit the gas at 5000RPM.

awesome numbers! 400+ HP on pump gas is excellent. I am looking forward to your A/F & boost graphs.

I was just wondering if SFP had an idea as to the prices on the turbo kits that they will be doing for the Evo and what kind of turbo, hp, spool-up, ect. It looks like they have done an increadible job from what I have seen and am just curious as to what their product will consist of. It is nice to see so many turbo kits coming out as competion will only help the consumer, besides which it is nice to have so many options so that we as the consumers can find something to meet our needs.

John, congrats on the numbers. I'd like to see your maps if you don't mind. I would love to get a little database going (I can host or someone else, whatever) for AEM maps so we can share info.

Shiv, headwork helps a lot. You also need one of these like Shape said:

In our opinion it's a relatively small turbo. Spools like a sum***** but as you said, levels off even on our race ported head with 272 cams. Over 8K rpms power fell off. People pay a ton of money for those 3037's when we have a solution that will spool just about as fast and make gobs more power up top and pull hard to to an 8500rpm redline, for a hell of a lot less money. Our solution includes a tubular custom turbo manifold, Tial wastegate 38mm, turbocharger, install kit, downpipe and lower IC pipe for just about $2100. Turbo has a full 1 year warranty and IC pipe and turbo manifold have a full 3 year warranty. For John's car we wanted to do a slightly larger turbo than I'm speaking of and the car would have made much more power. Unfortunately John paid a pretty penny already for his HKS setup.
I don't understand how a .82 A/R by HKS standards correspond to a tiny .58 A/F by Garret standards. While different companies might define the "R" in A/R slightly differently, that margin for error is in the 0.01-0.02 range, not 0.24. At least according to the Garret engineer sitting next to me He also states that, according to his memory, the 76mm compressor on the 3037 was only available in 48, 52 and 56 trims. Only the standard non-GT Ballastic Garret T4 compressor is available in 57 trim, AFAIK. While more expensive, the advantage of the Garret GT series turbos over the standard Garret T3/T4 family of turbos is higher thrust loading capacity (hence their populary in road racing/rally applications) and higher flow rates at similar frame sizes. While drag racing may not demand ultimate durability and longevity, a 24 hour endurance race certainly does.

my 2c,
shiv

Well, I beg to differ. You/SFP are the first to decline any sort of pooling effort. That's a shame. It isn't like anyone is actually going to be able to use your map anyways or that anyone can't replicate it.
My customers would hang me by something tender if I tried to tell them what to do with their payed for tune. <shrug>
