I've put the Howard billet rods (map sells them) in the last 3 engines I've built. It's what I recommend.

Don't forget about bearing life

I would like some updates please.

I know it’s 2019 but I can’t find more reviews on these 2 rods. I know the map rods are now the rev2 rods. If anyone out there can give me more info on their experiences I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

My car:
Evo 9 mr stock 6 speed
stock 9 head w/ stock valvetrain
hks exhaust camshaft (idk which one prob 272)
custom 35r turbo kit
Arp headbolts
full bolt ons
walbro 450
e85
30 psi

Hoping to be at 500awhp and close to 500tq
fic 1450

Both are solid rods and will suit your power goals so go with whatever fits your budget. I do believe the Howard rods require 6 bolt bearings which is why it states it should be used with an oem crank but your builder will sort out the necessary clearancing.

The price isn’t the issue because I’ve already paid for the stage 2 block to be built. I’m just more concerned about reliability since the Manley’s don’t have very many poor reviews as the map rods have a few poor reviews.

Get your money back before MAP builds you an engine, then go buy an engine from a shop that actually knows that they're doing. This is but one example of a failed MAP engine- rings upside down FTW. Read from this post onward.

Holy ****, that was a good read. Never realized this kind of stuff was happening over there. Damn shame, guess I'm glad I build my own engines...

I can’t build it bec I don’t trust myself because I’m not good with numbers and calculations. It’s a bit too sensitive for me. I can’t afford to mess it up myself rite now. Maybe I’ll start building a cheaper motor in the future. Like a civic motor or something like that.

Theres nothing wrong with having someone build a motor for you, just make sure they are knowledgeable and have PROVEN results. Give English Racing or Buschur Racing a call.

Sure is. I have a friend who just had a car come into his shop with a MAP motor, same issue. Smoking like a chimney, oil collecting on the top of the pistons, using a quart of oil in <100 miles. Compression and leak down are good, turbo doesn't leak. It's now staying with them for a tear down. Probably a good bet its the same issue, upside down rings.

A local guy with an EvoX has a MAP motor. It doesn't seem to use oil or smoke, but it sounds he did a cummins 4bt swap with all the noise the engine makes....
