dang yahu its like that but tscompusa as others have mention could it had been a issue since you had low compression since day 1 etc just wondering almost like it was destiny to blow. Like it was crap from jump street??

As i mentioned I did not break the motor in properly it got cylinders washed out by running excessively rich from day 1. Im letting David do it again, theres no reason not to.... his motors handle a hell of a beating. No ones motors going to run on 1 qt of oil though, not even gods.

Dam bro that sucks to hear!

I just had guy spin his bearings in his car on wednesday after getting some test logs off it. There was a spot of oil touching the bottom on a hill.

With a spot on tune it should help this time. Just break it in hard and you shouldn't have compression problems. Hopefully you don't have oil issues again either.

Ya if you don't change anything you'll be golden anyway.

Get a bigger oil pan maybe?

Buschur power!

I'll be keeping a sharp eye on my oil regardless.

Best of luck on the build. BTW - the "tapping" sound is exactly what I heard when my stocker spun a bearing. Watching you manually tap it, and hearing that sound sent shivers up my spine!
damn.. ya keep an eye on the level man!

LOL true but the question still remains of how did it get crazy low like that to begin with? Also if you dont mind me asking as im curious how much is he charging to fix the issue i suppose you dont know yet of course until he gets the motor and takes alook at it. You pulled it quick thats for sure .

I had the same issue with the spun rod bearing.. and I am currently rebuilding now... and Since I have the motor out, I am upgrading more and more... I love... and hate... spending so much money on my car.... but its my baby and deserves the love.. plus its the last thing that I can actually still call mine and not ours (wife).

i saw this thread, but never looked to see who started it.....

what oil & oil weight were you using during break-in & then, normal / heavy running / tuning?

autozone 20w50 for like 10 miles, then again for 25 miles then again for 50 miles.. the car was broken in perfect. almost identical to how ams break in tech guide says, cept more overkill cause i didnt wanna risk damaging fp black. tune on break in could have been better, at the time i didnt know how to tune the evo ecu that well as i do now. a/f with break in was 10.5 which is alittle rich for e85 and maybe washed cylinders alittle?

I never took the car on a long trip before like that so I didnt expect it to happen. The furthest I took the car was maybe 20 miles tops on occasion.

Amsoil 20w50 full synthetic was used the entire time of engine life. Car was treated very good, I changed oil every 1500 miles along with a mitsubishi oil filter. nothing was done wrong. For this to happen to me there was something else going on in the engine and I hope Buschur Racing takes care of me, because I wasnt done enjoying their motor yet.

Here are updates:

Damn Tom sorry to hear... I am not pointing fingers at anyone, shiznit happens and as you have proven, running a car low on oil will destroy things quickly! Hope the new build goes more smooth!

I think its fair to say that its not entirely my fault here, and the motor shouldnt have been burning 3 qts in a 850-900 mile driving distance just cruising 75-80mph the entire time on paid toll interstates.

At the same time I feel responsible, because I seen it low on oil and neglected to check and instead went and drove the car to see if the oil pressure increased and it stayed under 25psi just cruising around the block and that is when the bearing got ate.

I agree. Motor had a lot of blowby from day 1. When I was dyno'ing at CBRD I pulled the dipstick to check oil level and topped it off full there, and forgot to put retention spring back on and dipstick popped out.. just one example of the nasty blowby the motor had.

The blowby is expected for a new motor though, and the dipstick thing was fixed by a simple $5 retention spring, so i didnt really care.

I have no complaints with the Buschur equipt I have so Im going to have him fix it up and start over again. A new motor will burn oil, and it probably didnt even have close to 5k on it yet and a long trip cruising at 80mph or so the entire time there things got hot im sure and synthetic oil burns faster as well. What bothers me is I checked oil level before i left so im not the type of person to neglect a engine and all the years ive ever owned cars i did oil changes within 2k and this one i was doing within 1500 miles..

This is not a cheap ordeal.. Things need to be replaced that are expensive. Oil cooler, turbo had to be sent back to FP for inspection, and everything oil goes through has to be flushed out.

Just looking at the motor is a shame, because you can tell its a baby motor and its still new.
