What kind of "track" ? Road racing oil temps. may be a lot higher than drag.

- 120 C or 248 F is too hot for my liking....I'd try to keep the oil temps below 210.

- Have you checked : Oil level, Coolant levels, coolant flow, bad oil pump, oil cooler not working properly ?

it is 120 C , Road racing , have new oil ,coolant is ok ... it runs fine on the street its just on track when the temp goes high due to the high rev`s.. have`nt had the oil pump or the oil cooler checked ..will get it checked this week .

Well if you are road racing that is a different story (I thought you meant street driving). The motorsports section will likely have some answers for you...If it were me, I'd run another large oil cooler (in series to the OEM) and place it above the FMIC....I'd also likely install a tranny cooler / pump if this is a race car.

Thks !! i did search the threads ...but din`t find anything , we are going to check the complete oil line section for any blockage along with the oil cooler ...before we upgrade to a better one . this is not a race car but i do track it a couple of times a year .

250F in 100F+ temps seems about right to me for road race usage. I believe that this is the thread you're looking for...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/se...-929s-evo.html

He usually sees 250-270F in the summer heat on track, so it looks like your temps are inline with his. He changes his oil every few hundred miles during the race season, and gets the oil tested/analyzed every time. I recommend you contact apagan01(Andy) about what oil he recommends to best protect your Evo based on your usage. He'll make sure your car is well protected.

I know guys with Evos (using stock cooler) see these kind of temperatures on the track, but from my experience that is too hot....With our 911 race cars we ran the OE coolers + a giant cooler up front to keep oil temps within the proper temperature range. I would think the same should be done with the Evo.

Coolers I have used in the past are: Earls, Hughes Aircraft, and Sertrab - all should be relatively easy for you to find....

Agreed that 250F+ is hotter than I'd like to run the 46G3 as well. My only point is that boomn29 has pretty much proven that you can frequently run that engine at very high temps as long as you stay on top of lubrication. Plus, I'm not sure you can assume that the Mitsu I4 has the same temp limits as a Porsche Flat6. A lot of different variables that determine what temps an engine can/can't handle.

doesn't the factory oil cooler thermostat (thats in the oil filter assembly) open at 100deg C ? (212F).
I see no problems with running an engine at 120degC, just make sure it's a quality oil. Obviously if you could get it colder it would be nice, but it's not 100% necessary.

It really has nothing to do with engine design and everything to do with oil breakdown and lubrication. At a certain temperature, oil tends to no longer provide optimal function. There is plenty of discussion regarding this with race teams and generally folks try to keep oil below 220-230*.
