you guys are punishing yourselves too much over oil. evo motors arent picky at all. if you are that worried about problems related to oil, dont run a fp turbo. its that simple.

Or run an oil that's of high enough quality that it doesn't matter what parts you have on your car...

i prefer to take a different approach and run high quality parts that dont require 3,000,000 ppm of zinc in a 80wt oil.

I prefer a high quality oil that will meet all my lubricating needs and not buckle under the pressure of the more demanding apps. And for the record I love my FP Red...A LOT. And I wouldn't give it up just to run a low quality semi synthetic motor oil.

im all for a good high quality oil, i just think threads like this cause undue stress and anxiety for a lot of people. ted posted a good list and many others have recommended oils. fyi, in my 540whp 07 sti i ran a mix of m1 0w40 and m1 15w50. i beat the hell out of that car, overrevved and overboosted it many times and it never skipped a beat. if m1 can keep a sti motor alive under those conditions an evo should run fine on crisco.

I have a problem with the way FP tested Mobil-1. They emptied out the Brad Penn 20W-50 and then put in some BS 10W-30 non synthetic oil and ran it and then they changed the oil out again with another BS fill of 10W-30 non synthetic oil.......It seems apparant that they definately wanted to flush out the Brad Penn 20W-50 with 2 oil changes of some BS brand 10W-30 non synthetic oil. But then they dumped out the BS 10W-30 non synthetic oil and then filled it up with Mobil-1 10W-30 and proceeded on with their testing.......Don't you think it would have been fair to flush the BS oil out with 2 oil changes of the Mobil-1 10W-30?? I have read that small amounts of regular oils mixed in with Mobil-1 will reduce its effects. Why didn't they try Mobil-1 15W-50 which has the same amount of zinc and more phos than the BS Royal Purple that they say is approved for the FP Turbos???? I just feel like Mobil-1 got screwed in these tests.............

I doubt FP has an agenda against Mobile 1...I mean conspiracy theories aside if I recall there is some mobile one that is approved for use with those turbos.

Do you or do you not think they should have done 2 changes of the 10W-30 Mobil-1 to ensure the BS non synthetic oil was better flushed out? This is a yes or no question....please answer.

Yes, cleaning better MAY have lead to SLIGHTLY more favorable results. But if they used a similar method across the board for all oils then it;s kinda a moot point.

How would I find the flash and shear point of amsoil 0w-30? Does zddp only come into play if the film breaks?

High Temperature/High Shear Viscosity cP, X°C, X s-1 (ASTM D4683)
3.2

Couldn't tell you what that means...but AMSOIL is premium so I am certain it means something good
