Wow!! I've been trying to see that kind of power a manley h-beam can handle, but this certainly isn't the type of data I was looking for. Good luck with the new build.

I did the same thing to a Mustang engine a few years back. Heads had been on and off the engine a few times, I skimped and didn't replace the head studs after torquing and retorquing them twice. Yes, they held the torque when I rechecked them with the torque wrench, but I had this "gut" feeling I should throw new ones in.

Well, I ignored that gut feeling and payed the price when pushing 25lbs of boost it lifted the passenger side head and allowed the cylinder to draw in water near the end of the 1/4 mile at over 165mph. Scary business when you're going that fast and you suddenly find your tires covered in oil and water.

Just curious why you think it hydrolocked and not just that it threw the rod from piston or rod failure?

If you throw a rod it will get all screwed up. Was the small end still attached to the piston/wrist pin? What did the piston itself look like?

Were you running pump, pump and meth or E85?

I'm runnning pump + meth. It popped under light accelleration in rush hour traffic at around 5psi.

The bearings were fine, the crank was fine, the wrist pin was fine, and small end of the rod was fine... it just bent and broke. The piston itself got bounced around and mangled up, but the head and valves seem untouched.

Of course, the inevitable question "what's next?" Well, I've ordered a BR 2.1L Destroker and BR Stage 3 MIVEC Head. I've already got a bunch of other parts awaiting install... most notably an HTA86 and a Garrett 3.8" Core FMIC.

Can't hide money! What clutch are you going with now?
