^^^ If I'm understanding this correctly, your not after an OEM silence exhaust? Your after something that is very live-able and pretty much does not drone?

If I'm correct then you could easily be happy with running 2 mufflers. But it has to be 6" center and 7" rear magnaflows. That was what I ran in Double Magnaflow setup but I did/do not have cam's.

However if you are like me and want absolute OEM like quiet then that wont help achieve it.

Correct. It does not have to be OEM silent. Just quiet.

Right now it sounds like a race car.

I'm researching your setup here: 6" and 7" double magnaflow.

I'm concerned about vibration from the 6" front on the underbody. Do you think you could have cleared without removing the heat shield?

Also, I know buschur makes a great slip on piece... but do you think you could have achieved the same setup with an ebay 3" (~$200 catback) plus the 6" and 7" magnaflows? I'm trying to stay under $500, as this is an experiment at this point.

Yes. I just chose the buschur because they offer a slip fit design which is much easier to work with than a flange setup that would require welding in flanges.

I'm not sure about how much cam's make a difference (I'm assuming they wont make much of a difference) Your car will be a lot more mellow and far from a race car. But your better off buying a used Buschur Magnaflow exhaust. Because spending money on ebay exhaust then another 2 mufflers will add up to the same or maybe more.

I'll tell you this. If you find a buschur exhaust that has a bullet or SD center testpipe, I'll trade you my 6" center muffler testpipe. Doesnt matter which just as long as its flange on one end and slip fit on the other. My car doesnt really need a 6" center to be quiet thats why I'll make this offer to you. But it is my daily so I would have to swap first.

As for clearing the heat shield. Kyooch is running it with the heat shield on.

I just did this mod - it actually took me the whole day haha - tools weren't fitting, bolts weren't coming off, old bolts didn't fit the magnaflow's flanges, on and on. Then I stopped to watch the Cavs game.

Anyway, I'm SO impressed with how much quieter the car is. I didn't QUITE notice it at first (first time the car was on in about 2 weeks, idling on cold engine in the garage), but after I finally pulled the car out I noticed just how much quieter it is.

I'm not sure exactly how to describe it. On my old set up, 5th gear @ 45mph was louder than 4th gear at 45mph now. It's like each gear has gone up one gear (so down, in sound) in terms of sound volume. The sound level I put my stereo at for normal driving on the old set up is now sufficient for me to have on the highway. The primary sound I hear on the highway is no longer the exhaust, but tire noise. Idle is quiet now to a point of actual decency. I think it's important to note that my previous exhaust setup wasn't all that loud to begin with; it's just that much quieter now.

Also wanted to mention that I have zero creaks, rattles, squeaks, anything in my car - I had one squeak from an aftermarket stereo wire set up but I got that taken care of last month. I can't describe how much of a joy it is to be inside my car again driving it around - not for the power, the handling - but just for the simple fact of having a little peace and quiet like I would in a normal car.

Old set up: Tanabe DP 2.75", Cobb TP 3", Buschur catback and magnaflow 7"

The only thing changed was the test pipe, switched out to a 6" magnaflow can with a flange on each side. Clears the heatshield with no problems. Had to some finagling due to a long O2 sensor (from spark plug antifoulers attached) you'll see what I mean - the next time the car is up I think I will just purchase an angled O2 sensor. Below are pics:

In conclusion: If you're like me and willing to trade 3 horsepower for a little peace and quiet - this is the solution for you. In fact, this is the solution for ANYONE looking for a quiet exhaust for their evo.

a BIG thanks to BluEVOIX for helping me out when I was running into this or that. SO glad I stumbled upon this thread, and good luck to all!

I forgot about kyooch's setup, thanks.

I don't think I can find a used Buscur in the time I need to track one down, but I would definitely do the trade.

I'm a bit confused as a first time Evo owner, but I think that the test pipe comes as part of the TBE, but not the CBE, correct? I don't see it in the photos on buscurracing.com so I believe that to be the case.

Are those side resonators available seperately and do they have to be tuned (designed to certain size/length I assume) to a certain exh/muffler?

I have espelir dp, megan resonated tp and GReddy EVO2. very quiet setup!

who said Greddy is loud? it's quiet! many people and prove it. it has the big can, but it hides very well, you won't see a can hanging down low like buschur and other side angle exhaust.

A lot of people with the megan resonated test pipe (probably resonated test pipes in general) find their supposed-to-be-loud exhaust to be relatively quiet.

with all this it's quiet or its super loud for the same exhaust, i am thinking about creating a new thread using our phone with a free decibel meter app.

the only thing that we must keep consistant is the distnace & angle from the exhuast tip.

list mods & idle speed & hold it steady @ 3k or something...just a thought.

does anyone know the details for the meter placement within the turbo larry magazine article posting or even the procedure for measuring your exhaust within the state you live in?

I thought I read it was 3'.

Anyway, I was having this discussion with a friend of mine that is head of the android section of a pda forum and an ex audio installer/spl competitor, and he seems pretty confident that a phone mic does not have the sensitivity to pick up exhaust frequencies. So I'm not sure a phone app will fit the bill.

I think we'd have better luck with a community db meter, shipping it around to various owners to list their specs and db at whatever distance was decided on.

In keeping with that, he is going to bring his db meter next week to work so I can try to get before and after's on my exhaust now and then on whatever solution I try. Of course, I won't be able to send that around... but I did check on them myself and it seems like there are a few $20 db meters out there that don't get great reviews for sensitivity.

To get back on topic. Can anyone answer about the SD/Bullet being sold separately?

I searched the marketplace, and I didn't see where there had ever been a used Bushur exhaust listed for sale. I think if there were one out there, it would be on this site.

That said, I don't think I get it as part of the $470 cat-back on buschurracing.com. Can someone confirm?

They dont have the testpipe listed but you can contact them and they can easily sell you one. But search in the forum if anyone is selling a used setup or make a WTB thread to save some $ on the your exhaust journey.

Just make sure you get yourself the Buschur catback that has a 7" magnaflow rear muffler.

That's what I meant, I searched the forums (marketplace at evom).

But, uhh, wait a minute. Am I correct that the HFC is actually in the test pipe where the 6" round Magnaflow should go? Will this not throw a CEL?

Edit: Wait, this pic buschur turboback shows the HFC and the test pipe separately. I'm going to try to get under my car to see... but I'm hoping that I can keep my HFC to please the inspection station, and have the 6"round and 7"round magnaflow setup. Do you think this is doable? I only want to have the 6" welded in. I want it to be able to bolt to the HFC but I'm not sure where it comes apart. I think I'll be forced to get under and take a closer look.
