Ohhh WOW! Yeah, the Nexus S does a pretty good job of capturing how loud the car is. That is much more accurate than my first video on page 3 or 4 with my old phone (Nexus One with noise cancelling mic).

So yeah. Unacceptable.
Wow that not only sounds loud but it sounds pretty bad too. Yikes.

sounds like the muffler packing is saturated in gas.

It's not. It was louder than that before the dual Magnaflow setup, and was exactly this loud the minute it was started after having both mufflers replaced.

There is no fuel smell, no black smoke, etc.

I'm not sure of the value of that comment, but thanks for the input?

it was just an opinion on what could possibly be wrong. as exhausts get older (especially with a rich tune) the packing starts to change. you cleared up that thats not the case so i guess its of no value.

haha... I didn't mean your comment had no value to the forum.

It was a good question, and this thread is long, I don't expect you to read through EVERY page.

I just meant that I didn't know where you were going with that comment. You clarified, so thanks for the input.

My car does have a "safe" tune, (read: not lean), so it your comment could have been relevant for the old setup. Someone is bound to read this while searching, and that information may be helpful.

Just saw the video. Yes that is very loud. Wow, I dont know why your not having any success. Only thing I can think of now is the cams making that big of an impact. And if what I suspect is true, the only way left to quiet a cam'd car is with a muffler that creates a restriction. OEM muffler with a boost activated dump or varex muffler but I dislike manual motor switches.

I feel your pain. It's definately even louder than mine.

An old man got my plate number yesterday and said, I'm going too call the police it's too loud for our neighborhood. I was soo frustrated after all my day of work, thats another story, that I literally when full throttle for at least 10 seconds on the rev limiter. HAHA made my day right there with his face.

I think I'm going too put another resonator and let you know. I "almost" want to go back stock cat back...

and it is 5db quieter than before if you can believe that. (according to my phone)

Anyhow, I have decided to go back to stock cams, stock turbo, and stock or Tanabe exhaust, but not in the way you think. I am going to sell my car and buy a stock CT9A. There are a host of reasons, a bit too loud, a bit too stiff, a bit too fast, etc. I've already found two cars that are unmodified, and I have 5 people on a waiting list for my car, and the deal is supposed to go down Monday. They won't have as few miles as mine, but it's just going to be too much work for me to de-modify it, when someone else can appreciate it just the way it is.

That said, see my response to Polo below for my take on why we are so freaking loud compared to you.

That sucks. But I think I figured out why mine is as loud as it is. I want to tell you to stop where you are and think about another option.

When the muffler guy welded the rear muffler in, he cut it as close to the bend as possible, so it bends from the center to the right rear, then IMMEDIATELY mates to the muffler.

While searching for leaks two days ago, I walked from the hood, quiet... to the left fender, quiet... to the left front door, quiet... to the left rear door, quiet. Then I got to the left rear quarter, and the frequency was booming. Then I walked behind the car and it was loud, but not as booming as beside the quarter.

I think that the position of the muffler and the angle of the pipe going into the inlet of the muffler has this tuned in such a way that it is causing a lot of low frequency output. which is amplified at the rear of the car. There is only about an inch or two of straight pipe before the muffler weld.

I have heard a test pipe, Buschur bullet system in person, and ridden in it, and it was much quieter than my car. It was also more built than my car, engine and turbo-wise.

I honestly feel that the complete systems are quieter than our custom fab jobs due to the length and shape of the piping and the material used. I am somewhat convinced that this is the reason BluEVOIX's car is quieter than mine. I would not think that had I not ridden in an sd-equipped car that was quieter.

My suggestion is before you spend money to add another resonator, just buy the Buschur Magnaflow CBE. Then you have a setup like BlueEVOIX, with dual Magnaflow/Bushur hybrid. Worst case scenario: if it is not quiet, pull it back off and sell it used on the forums for $400+, and you are out <$70. If this fixes the problem, then you can sell your custom fabbed piece on the forums to someone who wants a loud, no-restriction exhaust. Also, the mystery will be solved for future quiet exhaust seekers, and even I would consider it for my next car.

That is what I would do. That Buscur Bullet SD with test pipe was so much quieter than mine it was unreal. The owner of that car told me: "man, just buy the Buschur Magnaflow if you want it quiet". So, that's an option to consider, as crazy as it sounds.

But I dont think Buschur uses any special magnaflow. Its just a polished 7" width magnflow muffler with a case length of 14" .

Wow, changing the color and adding a JDM bumper made that kind of a difference?

Is that car stock?

lmao. Everyone knows white is the quietest color!!!!

No it's not stock. It has a few bolt ons, an HKS intake, some JIC coilovers in need of a rebuild (good thing I have two sets of MR Bilsteins!) and some other goodies.

HOWEVER! It does have factory cat! and a factory CBE! and OE engine mounts! and no Cusco bracing! Wonder of wonders... it is quiet!

As a side note, the gent who bought my Evo is about 100x more familiar with these cars than I am, and he stated quite plainly that the engine mounts definitely and possibly bracing are causing the noise. So I guess mystery solved?

Anywho, not my problem!!! LOL. I'm loving my new whip! Tire noise and radio static FTW!

There are many pages here to read so I am sorry I have not read all of them. But from what I have heard a "good" solution is the WORKS Exhaust system. Go with their Resonator or HFC option. A friend has that set up on his car and is MUCH quieter than my BR setup.

You know, I like the power and the exhaust noise is cool to a point if it helps the car out, but for me? After 8 yrs of driving Evo's the BR exhausts as good as they are, are just plain loud. Don't get me wrong, they do what they claim, make power, but for DD use with kids, and what not, it just gets OLD REAL FAST. I am looking into options myself, but money is tight. Just going back to OEM may be my only option right now.

This link may Help you:
http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...roducts_id=131

There are different combos you can get, but I would think either the HFC and or Resonator would be the quietest. Or, You "could" send Works your OEM Cat and they can modifiy it to flow better for a fee. Then run their intermediate pipe and muffler. I was seriously considering that. Just where I am, Emissions are a hassle, is why I was considering going OEM only. My M3 Cozzie cams may be coming out Well Good Luck, hope this Helps You.
