GTSpec Headers, Perrin 3" downpipe, CBE, HFC.

EDIT: HOLY ****! I just saw that your distance was 20" as in INCHES. I didn't read this post before I went out and measured... mine was 93 db at 20 FEET.

So from seeing these... It's pretty evident that my car is as loud as I think it is. I started it this morning and came back in to let it warm up, and when it idled down, the dishes were rattling in the cabinets.
Ok team. A quick and dirty db check in the garage at 20", yes INCHES this time, report 88db. So I'd say the 5db estimate is close. I will recheck the rest of the numbers this week.

9.5 3" downpipe, testpipe and OEM catback

8.5 Tanabe Medallion catback with OEM cat and OEM downpipe!!

7.5 Buschur Double Magnaflow exhaust. (7" rear magnaflow and 6" center) catless

6.5 Cobb TBE exhaust (catless) (over time got a little louder, I guess packing burning up)

5.0 Buschur TBE with bullet center and vibrant widebody muffler in the rear

5.0 Buschur TBE with HFC and Magnaflow muffler

5.0 Tanabe medallion catback with 3" testpipe and downpipe

4.0 RRE stealth exhaust with 3" downpipe and testpipe.

2.0 Jun BL catback with 3" downpipe and testpipe

1.0 Buschur TBE with bullet center no muffler in the rear.
Update after replacing my cracked tubular manifold with a stock cast unit. It definitely got quieter, but it is still pretty freaking loud.

Also, the drone did go away somewhat. Before, it droned HARD from 3k-4.5k. Now I'd say it drones some around 4k. Still, it has a loud "mellow" hum. Doubtful that it would be wife approved, and DEFINITELY NOT child-approved.

I'd say my results did indeed land me near the range above, but probably more like 5.0-6.0. I'm basing this off the theory that the Medalion touring is a 7.5 to a stock exhausts 10.

Now I'm debating trying to add another resonator, or just biting the bullet and going to a Medalion.

Did you make sure you dont have any leakes any where on the exhaust?

I'd check all the flanges to make sure they are not leaking between the gasket also.

I'm curious as to why your not receiving the quietness level as expected. Possibly the cam's are adding quite a bit of exhaust noise? Maybe the 5" center is not strong enough as well?

I'd say go with a resonator rather than the tanabe.

And here are some pics.

I painted the muffler and tip black with VHT Flame Proof. It looks very stock from the back of the car (except for the riveted carbon heat barrier).

Me too. I'd say that now that mine is loud as crap with the 5+7, and Polo is loud with the 6+7, that your setup is actually the anomaly. Maybe the Magnaflow in the BR CBE is a special unit or something also.

I am leaning towards the resonator. I'm already in too deep so no sense stopping now.

The exhaust guy mentioned that the Borla is quieter than the Magnaflow, but he also said it DOES step down as well.

Maybe I'll try the resonator first, then a second resonator, then a Borla in place of rear Magnaflow.

I'm going to have a 300lb exhaust before this is over...

The exhaust is not touching the under brace or any part of the chassis?

I ask this because i had the tie bar touching the exhaust downpipe before and this transffered a lot of exhaust noise inside the cabin. And from your picture, possibly its the angle, but it looks pretty close.

I'd have been disappointed if you didn't ask about that.

I saw that in the pic too. TBH, I was up under the car all morning and never noticed the tight clearance, so I'm thinking it is the angle in the pic. It's the first thing I saw when I uploaded this.

I will be rechecking this tonight, possibly pulling the braces.

It may "look" or "seem" quiet... but it's not!
It is still waaaaaay too loud.

Without before and after videos of yours its going to be tough to tell.

I got a good setup for the before on mine, now I just need to get a good after video. Still struggling with the upload though. I may end up ordering a cable from Amazon. I'm done with Sony everything.

Only one is stock. I appreciate the extra thought you are putting in, but solid motor mounts aren't going to rattle the dishes in my house. (although, now it is just the glasses, not the plates! )

In the car? Yes. Everywhere else? Not so much in my opinion.

Btw, checked the clearance on that brace, and it is at least two inches, so it was the angle. I suppose it's possible that it contacts the brace while driving, but I would say not during idle and or while stopped.

The only reason why I am asking about the motor mounts is that for some reason on my srt-4 when i relaced both motor mounts with filled ones, the exhaust sounded noticeably louder inside and it droned way worse on the freeway. It was so bad I could hardly hear my radio. People argue with me that it is not possible but it made a such a huge difference in my exhaust sound that I removed one of the solid mounts and the exhaust went back to normal sounding. It was the weirdest thing. Just thought i would share since you are trying to look at this from all angles.

I have also noticed this as well. I had an srt-4 but only had the insert so i didnt notice the noise. But I noticed more engine bay noise with the blox front motor mount when I had it with the Evo. Not as crazy as you experienced, but it did transfer more sound in cabin.

I drove my car to work today for the first time since getting the Exhaust manifold replaced, and let me tell you, it is way too loud. Not loud to me, loud to everyone. There is no conversation to be had during normal driving, only during coasting.

I had to drive to the other side of town after work, so I was in the car roughly (no pun intended) an hour and fifteen minutes. I have a throbbing in my ears/head.

I don't think I'm going to be going to another resonator or the Borla. I think I am done. Maybe a Greddy Evo 2 with my 5" center. Maybe a Tanabe with a 5" center. If I lose the flow, so be it, the car is just not drivable for any sane human.

Something seriously is not right.

Would you be able to post a video clip?

Some questions for you:
Do you have a o2 dump or recirculating?

Have you checked all the flanges on the exhaust to make sure they are not leaking?

Did you check your downpipe, o2 housing etc.. to make sure there are no further cracks?

Which location is the loudness coming from , rear of the car, center and or front of the car?
