I need a legit way of taking this hog out. AutoZone rents a slide hammer out but the threaded end is way too big. I tried bolting in some chains and pulling on it and no budge. I also tried the pry bar method and I couldn't find anywhere to get proper leverage.

Is there any other way to pull this sucker out?

try finding a nut that threads onto the slide hammer...then find a bolt that threads to the output shaft...bring those 2 things to a exhaust shop and have them weld them together. most places wouldnt even charge you (but maybe thats just me) or $10 to weld it. then spin that bolt/nut into the slide hammer and slam that ***** out. worked for me wonderfully and in 3 hits

 

From a local autozone I always borrow a slide hammer / puller . It has unique tips that I am able to secure a bolt on to use.

Go to autozone and tell them you need to rent a blind hole puller set. The special ends will allow you to insert the bolt into them. You'll understand when you see it in person, and you'll be amazed how easily the output shaft will come out with the slide hammer.

The bolt that threads into the output shaft needs to be 8mmx1.25, 40mm or longer is preferable... My slide hammer came with a bunch of attachments that allowed me to grab onto the bolt while using the slide hammer. I would image you can grab the threads of the bolt just underneath the head with some vise grips or pliers and tap the pliers with a small hammer to get it out if you're really in a bind. It honestly doesn't take much to unseat the c clip that holds them into place.

 

That looked like a blind hole bearing puller, it won't have the piece you need to pull out the shaft. You'd need one designed for pulling dents. What I've done that has worked is pulling one of the bolts from the tcase diff housing, it threads right into the shaft and put the adapter from the dent pulling kit on and a few whacks with the slide hammer it comes right out.

 

Just FYI the oem dp hanger bolts are the same pitch.

I took that, a metal coat hanger wrapped it around the bolt then around a 5lb mini sledge. Pulled twice and that was it.

 

I usually use a suitably long bolt(the ac compressor bolts work fine...) and a good size socket(like the one used to remove the axle nuts). Use the socket like a slide hammer on the bolt.

Harbor freight slide hammer kit comes with a "U" shaped puller attachment that straddles the head of a bolt. It comes out very easy and the slide hammer kit is like 10$. works like a charm!
