I'm getting Energy bushings (maybe whiteline)

For anyone getting Jon's Maxx Lock diff, i HIGHLY recommend getting the HD side cover along with it - I had my diff all done and in my car, and I had it taken out and sent back just for the HD side cover.

I'm with you about trying to steer people to this mod though, anyone who wants to know how the ct9a evo should REALLY handle should buy this mod.
IMO this area of the car is the only real performance advantage the X has over the CT9A cars, and it's been shown many times that these high quality aftermarket rear diffs can performance almost as well as AYC, while being lighter and more reliable

I just got my dif and tcase back this week. I had issues with the customer service and sticking to his word. He was always nice on the phone and is a talker.
I can't wait to the get the car running again. I am running AMS solid bushings that go with the mustache bar elim.

I am getting this mod done for sure after speaking with John on the phone. He is a very smart man and after our conversation, I know my diff will be in good hands!

Why did you send you rear diff back to get the hd side cover when i talked to him he said it's basically if you're going to launch the car you should get it done but i don't. I'm probably going to order Energy suspension diff bushings as well... he quoted me a 1-2 week turn around time at most..I noticed a lot of you are saying he has problems sticking to his word...Was he quoting you the same time?

Jon and I agreed that the stock mustache bar with energy bushings is the best combo. It’s cheap and great mod to do while the diff is out. I installed them on my evo.

The reason I didn't do the mustache eliminator is cost and the Evo is already has a very lite rear. This is no good for weight transfer on a road coarse.

I use the AMS rear mustache bar eliminator kit with their solid aluminum bushings. Works great, but I wouldn't recommend it if it's your DD - very noisy setup.

maybe this is something I should have looked into when I swapped my diff, but whats the advantage of changing out the bushings?

preventative maintenance - i dont really launch my car but the car does get driven pretty hard at times and i'd rather get it done now that run the chance of spinning bearings and damaging the diff - he said he's seen a lottt of diffs with that kind of bearing damage that aren't even driven that hard.. paid a ton of money for the diff so i just wanna take care of it

I read in this thread how some lost mpg with Redline. I have seen many tests where synthetic oils picked up hp and mpg. The only way I think it wouldn't would be if the Diaqueen thinned out when it got hot and the synthetic was more stable so it didn't thin. I have went through a few tanks of gas since putting in Redline 80w140 in the TRE rear and changing the T-case to Redline. If anything it may have got a little better. I check my mpg every time I fill and in the winter it has been about 21-22.5. The last 2 after changing to Redline were 22.6 and 23.3. Last summer I would see 24ish with the warmer weather and better gas so I'm sure it will do the same if not better this year.

not necessarily redline but a thicker fluid is what we've seen to cause lower mpg.. your observation is interesting, strictly speaking thicker fluid should cause more resistance and thus less mpg. there is probably another factor involved, 21-22.5 is relatively low for an 03 evo 8

other synthetic oils picking up hp and mpg are more in regard to motors that are using synthetic oil, it lubricates better and then engine can run more efficiently, more power and more mpg

I have noticed even with my Mustangs, I lose 2-3 mpg with the winter gas. I guess I don't think 24 is bad in the summer. Highway I have seen 26.
