i really hate to chime in here without some feedback for you, but you need to check out www.dtafast.co.uk

READ THIS www.dtafast.co.uk

this engine management supports a mk3 VR6 turbo with a STOCK bottom end with over 450WHP that runs 11s. With the proper tuning, there is no reason this would not work on our cars. The unit is all together not that expensive in comparison to MoTec, etc... LOOK INTO THIS. THIS IS WHAT WILL WORK for you.

What do you mean spending more $$?

The answer above about the CDI was due to a question about that. But you should not have to change to a CDI to run 22-25 psi. If a hardware change is needed to a box that has already been shipped, we will do it for no charge. That has always been our policy.

The most straightforward thing to do is sit tight, we will keep everyone posted here.

I hope you guys with the earlier boxes get everything figured out. I wanted to let everyone know that with the EMS box (#30) I got everything is working great. Within 1 hour of tuning I had everything dialed in and making over 550whp at 27psi with a completely stock ignition. Plugs are BPR7ES and are gapped to stock specs and not even a hint of ignition miss. Everyone needs to be calm and rational, AEM said there is an ignition problem and they are working on it. I don't see how the EMS could blow up a turbo and you really have to be sure of what;s wrong with the car before placing blame on a part. I can understand your frustration but it's very easy to point fingers and hurt before finding the root of the problem. Have a great day!
Thats all

Just got the call from the guy at AEM and I am very greatful for the update!

It seems this issue we are having did not occur on test vehicles and they were low boost

ALL units that have been released to date are PRE-PRODUCTION units and vendors whould have instruced clients of same

They have two upgraded units shipped out to testers - ONE of whom is my favorite Buschur Racing and they are waiting for reports from high boost applications to see if the problem is resolved

I am going to send my unit in for the upgrade after the holidays

Thanks AEM for the update and the great product !

Also - they gave me some new REV limit settings to try out to soften the hit of the rev limiter which should help my explosive back fire at rev cut

I love my AEM so far and look forward to high boost work with it in the near future

We had a long meeting about that this morning. I know that it may seem that way and in this case, the ignition problem proves it, but looking at it in hindsight is easy. We put many, many hours on the evos, including a magazine dyno shoot with over 350hp and had no ignition problems. The main reason was that there were no big turbo kits/cars available at that time. We were running 18-20 psi on the stock turbo and having cars running mid 12's. We had no indication that we were close to the limit on the ignition. Also, just think how difficult it would be to "sell" someone on loaning us thier new evo:

Customer: What do you want it for?
AEM: We want to run really high boost
Customer: Is there a problem?
AEM: Not that we know of, we just want to be sure
Customer: How mush is really big boost?
AEM: Oh, about 25-28 lbs
Customer: Will this void my warranty
AEM: Most likely yes
Customer: Will my clutch get burned up?
AEM: Most likely yes
Customer: Well, gee, no thank you.

Thanks,

JR
Makes perfect sense !!!!

Not many nuts like myself and a few others are willing to chop up a $30,000 car the first few months

Its got to be hard to find those type of beta testers - HOWEVER - in the future - I volunteer to test away - if you got it I will test it !

JR,

I have run an aem on my car since the first week of november through brainstorm and gotten 3 hard track days + daily driving at 18 pounds boost and really tightly gapped plugs in the low 400 range. Felt I was just starting to make progress and now I am concerned again as I was when I raised this a month ago and posted my spark scatter issues and dyno chart that looked so bad with really uneven power up top.

I look forward to seeing a resolution to this issue. The key is what the company does at this point. Mistakes suck, but the manner in which they are taken care of is much more important.

Note to pass on to everyone at AEM: Just fix it! Do so in a timely matter and keep things productive on the information flow... share early and often.

I have read "claims" that aem has "great" support. Here is an opportunity to prove it one way or another.

Kudos to you JR for at least stepping up here and addressing everyone- it's not a solution but its at least a start.

A final question: Is upgrading the ignition one way to fix this? It would be nice to run power with the stock but I have msd blaster sscoils with an aem c2di to put on.

I am wary at this point to proceed...
I concur 100% - its a good opportunity for AEM to make a very good and lating impression ! A great product with a small problem and should be easily fixed
