Quick bearing question
I'm ordering bearings, I deff want the +.001 clearance bearings for the rods, but should I get them for the mains too? or it's only necessary for the rods because they take more abuse..?
Thanks
Thanks
Nah engine has 7k miles on it, recently had the engine/trans/tc out for other reasons, after getting it together again I started hearing a knocking sound getting louder and louder. From BARELY noticeable to noticeable anytime under load. Rod bearings werent BAD but werent good, and they (3 of the 4) had very weak "crush" I could push them in the caps with no effort, where as the new ones are tight as should be. But I'm changing all the bearings and don't know if I should get the .001+ bearings for the mains and rods, or just the rods. Engine is in the 550hp+ category. As far as the reason it started knocking I'm blaming it on only running 10w30 which is my fault because I didnt know it had the looser bearings since I got this engine in the car when I got it. I was running Rotella T6 5w40 for most of the time but put shell T3 10w30 in it to "rinse" the engine out since I had the pan and head/cams off since its cheap oil. Now will be running the new Amsoil Z-rod high zinc 20w50 now that I know about the bearings.
I currently have the .001 race bearings for the main And rods....I think they are normally only used in the rods but thats why I made this thread and been searching. The mains in it now dont help me since I can't find the p/n ANYWHERE online to tell me what size/make they are. I think its D6J C...I plan on plastigauging mains and rods so I have an idea what the clearances will be so I can go from there.
Are these bearings primarily for use in the rods and mains or just the rods?
