What's your reason for using heavier oil? What are your mods? What kind of oil are you using?

There are some owners with lifter noise who have attributed the problem to switching to heavier oil or heavier oil of a particular brand. The trouble is, there is usually a following post were another owner states they are using the same oil without problem.

Search some of the oil threads - there's a ton of them on here. Then you can be as confused as I am.

If you have lifter tick at idle. then try Mobil1 0W-40. This worked for me.

I am running Mobil1 0-40 and am not a fan. I get more engine noise with this that any other oil I have ran. I will be changing it this weekend and probobly going to try an AMS OIL.
You are going to find that lifter tick comes and goes with oil quality not consistancy. I Used to run far thicker oil than that in my VIII which got rid of all ticks and nocks but Im currently working my way through the different oils for something new on the XI
