Fast clicking noise
Fast clicking noise
Hey guys, so I recently purchased a 05 EVO 8 MR, has about 66k on the clock, it needed all the 60k maintenance still, and the clutch was slipping, so needless to say, I did all of the 60k stuff, plus the clutch, right away.
Now, there's this noise, and I don't remember if it was there before I did the maintenance or not, it's subtle, I mainly only hear it reverberating off of other cars or such. It's this fast clicking noise, it's not very loud, it's not a hard tappy click, but more of a soft subdued noise, almost like baseball cards in bike spokes. It's RPM dependent, if I clutch in, it'll go away when the RPMS drop, if I rev up the engine (clutch still in) it does it, but not as much as when the clutch pedal is out. I'm pretty sure it doesn't do it when the car is in neutral. I don't know if it's just the new clutch making noise, or the TOB, or what.
I don't think it's the timing belt/balance belt. I'm not getting any weird vibrations at any RPMs, the belts are tight. I took off the upper timing cover and didn't hear/see anything funky.
I just don't know if I'm being to paranoid, or what. Any ideas?

+1 for video
Lifter tick is quite likely, have a quick look through this thread:

Thanks for the replies you guys, I'll try to get a video later tonight.
I was reading through that thread, and saw the videos he posted, my lifters aren't that loud even. Hell, my fuel injectors are louder.
The sound I'm getting isn't that clacky, or metallic. It's more muted, the problem is, it doesn't do it as much (if at all) when parked, it seems to be load and RPM dependent.

Well I think I figured it out. I was under the car tonight, getting ready to take off my downpipe and put the new one on, and guess what wasn't where it was supposed to be. One of the spring bolts.
So I'm assuming the dp was leaking and that was the source of my soft clicking noise, heh.

I have a noise i would describe the same. Happens from ~2300-3000 RPM mainly when cruising, and also happens immediately for about 1.5 seconds after a warm start. It is indeed a weird noise. My downpipe looks secure, but I'm gonna get a new turbo and O2 housing put on here soon, so we'll see then. Maybe the donut gasket is messed up.
I finally figured my noise out changing my oil today. The plastic piece on the inside of the wheel well was knocking against the oil filter. Probably not the same problem you're having, but who knows.
