Cold Clutch Judder?

I bought my DD Evo Ⅸ about a month and a half ago and now I'm noticing some clutch judder when the engine is cold. This is a new issue and just started happening this past week. It occurs when I go to work in the mornings and also when I leave to drive back home. If you don't know what judder is, it's when I engage the clutch and it quickly alternates between gripping and slipping, almost in a pulsing fashion.

I don't experience it when I reverse out of my parking space, but as soon as I put it in 1st and let out the clutch, it will judder for about half a minute before it goes away. Afterwards, driving seems normal and I don't notice any clutch slipping or any other issues.

I searched around on google and some were saying that it might be condensation? The car is parked in an underground parking garage at home (condo building), and under covered parking at work. I saw some other possible causes in my web search, but they seem like they would lead to a permanent issue, and not one that goes away after the car warms up.

The car has about 44k mi and is stock except for a removed airbox / cone air filter replacement. I'm under the factory warranty until May, so I'm wondering if this is something that the dealer could take care of?

I've tried searching the forums on this, but I couldn't come up with any good info.

I'm curious about this as my car does the same thing...only for the first few minutes of driving.

^^^^ Try revving the engine to 2,000 rpm+ when letting out the clutch when it's cold. That took care of the "judder" you speak of for me.

Yep, thats usually what I have to do, but wondering what the mechanical reason is behind this.

I'm just wondering if this is a wear issue or not. If it's some other kind of mechanical issue, I'd like to get it checked out and fixed by the dealer before my warranty expires.

Thinking its likely hot spots on the flywheel causing a grip and slip situaltion. Could also be warped fly wheel... Once the clutch gets warm again..it slips smoother and grips a little less so it looks like smooth engagement--and if thats the case less likely the flywheel isn't warped. Just thinking out loud.

this could also be cold clutch fluid not going through the damn restrictor pill as smoothly.

Do you have a stock clutch? I know that puck style clutches chatter while trying to take off especially when cold.

Car is stock except for an air filter. Again, this is only an issue when the car is just started up. Once the car warms up, the issue goes away.

My evo 8 is just starting to get this similar chatter. Only happens in 1st gear from a standing start. I usually start off only reving to maybe 1,200 or 1,400 and then hit it once fully engauged. But if at a stop, i have to rev higher and cause more of a slip to occur to avoid the chatter. Once engauged, theres not chatter.

My evo has 131k miles with the stock clutch. Has never slipped. I'm thinking its oil or buildup on the flywheel causing uneven slippping of the clutch disk. My clutch is probably still fine, although quite old. For the cost to fix it, I'll probably just get a new clutch/flywheel, unless there is a $5 solution. but haven't discovered the simple fix yet.

I live in cold sweden and i've got the same strange clutch judder when i take off in 1st gear. It's far worse when the car is cold. Reving to 2k rpm+ will eliminate judder almost. Stock clutch to with 70 000kms on the clock. As someone said it seems to be som kinda of "hot spots" on the flywheel. Someone told me that if you do some hard starts with some clutch slip it will "grind" the flywheel clean.
