What's the best way to chuck the front diff carrier down? I was able to crack the ring gear bolts loose by putting it on my vise. The gear teeth gave me enough grip to loosen the bolts. Now that I'm tightening, the gear teeth doesn't give me enough grip to tighten the bolts down since they're slanted in the wrong direction.

I know I can probably have a buddy come by and put some weight on the carrier. But I'm impatient and don't want to wait!
I just use an air impact and a hundred years of experience. Brrrrppp-dat-dat-dat-dat-dat does it just fine. The most work is cleaning out the thread holes and threads well for the loctite. Or have Buba stand on it and use a torque wrench...

I'm about to go on a drive right now. I'll let you know what I think about it. My initial impressions are from my short test drive is that this thing ROCKS. I can actually go WOT through tight turns and the front wheels will keep gripping. Power understeering has been reduced significantly, if not removed completely.

I think I actually felt some power OVERsteering on my test drive. I felt the rear of my car kick out when I mashed the throttle while entering a turn in 2nd. That's something I've never experienced in my EVO before! I'm scared to really test this thing on public roads, so I plan to bring my car to the next auto-x to really test it.

Props to you for finding that! The diagrams and torque specs in it helped a lot!

Please confirm that it is required to pull driver-side CV shaft, inner shaft, as well. Also what did you use to lube the o-rings?

Thanks

Yeah, you need to pull it. The snap ring on the inner shaft will hold the front diff carrier in place if you don't. You won't be able to pull the front diff carrier out of the transfer case otherwise.

Also, you need assemble the inner shaft to both CV shafts before putting them back in the car. I couldn't get my CV shaft to snap lock in place when I installed the driver's side inner shaft first.

*EDIT*
I used gear oil to lube my o-rings. There should be pockets of gear oil around the t-case. I just dipped my finger in it and ran it around the o-rings.

Thanks- this is a great write-up. I'll be using it next weekend when I get back home from travel. I'm particularly impressed with the results of your test drive. Sounds like this LSD was really worth the wait.
