Evo Engine Break In [Super Hyper Mega Merge]
Hey Ralph,
Since you are fairly close to me, and you sound like you broke yours in fairly correctly, we can compare our two cars in a year, to see if there is any difference..... I plan to drive mine like a 'tard from here on out.

From 501 miles (which starts this afternoon for me) and through to it's selling/death date, the car will be driven the way it should be....

I was conservative for the first 50 miles especially....compare em in a year, sounds good to me! Though after the car is broken in, I tend to not drive conservatively....
huhu...you drive like a tard....

I put 400 miles on it with occasuional bursts to 7k rpms. After that it's ***** out. Not that I redline every gear. But if I want to realy stomp on it, I did, well before 600 miles. I have noticed, not due to the excess revs, quite a bit of diff noise during downshifting at high rpms.
My dealer said drive the **** out of it untill you get 5k miles on it, then bring it in. Oil change and tire rotation. I told him I was gonna bring it in at 600 miles, he said "don't". First oil stays in for 5k miles. This isn't your normal sedan folks. It's gonna take some serious stompin to break this car, according to the mechaninc.

to quote the kids in the hall
" that sounds like a bunch of utter bull**** to me dad"
break-in I understand but not with little pieces of metal from the new engine floating around in there / turbo spooling at 100,000RPMS .
Then again what the hell do I know we could prolly use 15 different methods and all end up getting approx the same power / engine life

exactly...what's the point in taking it easy to 600 miles then flooring it......does metal lose it's abrasive qualities after it has been thrown around in oil for exactly 600 miles....eh no.....the break in period was 600 miles...regardless of what dealers say that oil is coming out before I start subjecting heavy loads on the turbo.......MO....
What I think it funny is the fact that people are "taking it easy" on their new Evo and only going up to 5K, when at 3500 max boost is reached!!! So, the turbo is in full song at that point and "taking it easy" is irrelevant b/c the turbo is spinning the fastest and pushing the hardest, which is putting a load on the new engine.

you can hit 5k without spooling the turbo too.

And as far as the little peices of metal floating around in the engine, don't count on it. These cars are cranked up and stomped on as they are on the assembly line. All the way to 7k. The oil is then drained and replaced.
