Why a turbo timer is NOT useless
I dont have one on my evo 5 but a mate had one on his celica GT4 and when he used to give it a foot full the manifold and hot side would glow cherry red..........he just used to leave it 10 mins at idle to cool it down but say if he was parking the car up somewhere and going off would a turbo timer not come in handy then???
I guess that would depend on if his manifold and hot side are ALWAYS glowing red hot, even from a 5 minute run to the store, or just because he flogged the car to that point once and showed you.
A turbo timer is USELESS because No one BOOST into their parking spot at home or at the store.
When you go home, you usually "slowly" cruise though your neighborhood, to your house. This slow cruising time is enough cool down time. When you go to the store, you dont boost into you parking spot. You drive around "slowly" and find a spot. This is adequate cooling down time.

Don't forget.... Mid RPM, low load, steady state (interstate) driving will cause it to glow also. It's not just wot pulls.
If you want to "cool it down", it has to be low RPM, low load cruising.
Regardless, I stopped using them in 1998. Never had one turbo failure as a result of coking.

This and when I start the car and forget something in the house (and need the keys). I use it more as a babysitter for the car than anything else.
