Evo 8 Transmission Bearing Failure Help!!

Well I’ve had for a while now a slight knock on idle and gets pretty heavy on 1st gear but when I apply the clutch or shift into another gear it goes away completely. For some noob reason I was under the assumption that it was the TOB. A friend of mines drove the car this weekend and told me if it was the TOB then it would make the same noise on idle and first so I’m leaning towards the bearings in the tranny. Can anyone give me a diagram with bearings on the 1st gear for an 2005 Evo 8?

Thanks

It is usually either the TOB or the input shaft bearing that rattles. In my case my 6 speed had a mild rattle in neutral and in gear but was quiet when the clutch pedal was depressed. New tob and it was quiet at all times.

I had terrible luck with my input bearing on my six speed. Basically if it's the input bearing the noise will go away anytime you put the car in neutral. It doesnt matter of the clutch is in it will still roar if in gear and moving. The tob will likely make noise when the clutch is pushed and stop when you release the pedal.

It sounds like a hammer going off inside the trans case. Even hear it upon shut down with car in neutral.
