P0365 Evo 9 CEL
Hey guys, I'm still new to evo's but i'm slowly learning all the do's and don'ts. I've got an Evo 9 with 60k miles on the body. It has a 4g64 long rod motor that I just installed after the previous motor spun a rod bearing. I'm having this issue where the P0365 cam angle sensor bank B CEL will not go away and my car is very difficult to start when cold. If I cant get the car started I usually end up having to push start it. After I get it warmed up it drives and idles fine. No stalling or breaking up. The motor was basically removed from a friends car and put it mine. When it was in his car there was no issues with it. I do recall that when I first started the car the wires going to the EXHAUST cam angle sensor were very hot. I checked my grounds and found a loose one on the intake manifold which I fixed and it seemed to fix the wires from heating up.
Car has:
Fully built 4g64 aluminum long rod motor
2150cc FIC blue injectors (93 pump)
Turbo xs FMIC with Injen piping
4 bar map sensor
GSC S3 cams
Stock turbo for the time being (aftermarket 02 housing and exhaust manifold)
Full 3" exhaust
Forge Bov
Walbro 255
stock intake manifold
The car is tuned using the 4 bar map sensor so the Maf is not needed to be plugged in.
What i've done:
I checked the signal wire voltage on both cam angle sensors and got around 5.0v on both
I've replaced the crankshaft position sensor
replaced the intake side cam angle sensor with a brand new OEM (it has a white dot on it)
replaced the exhaust side cam angle sensor with another OEM one
replaced my spark plugs with the NGK lazer iridiums
Anyone have any ideas for me? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the problem is. Anyone else have similar problems?

Mine seems to do that when it's cold. Like this morning It started and runs very rough until it gets warmed up. After it's warm it seems to drive fine. I forgot to mention that I deleted all of my EGR stuff and blocked off the exhaust port on the head. All of those CEL were removed in the tune. I don't know if that would be the cause for that.

So I believe I've come to the bottom of the issue. The gasket on the oil pickup tube had a crush washer installed instead of the regular gasket so it may have been leaking oil there and causing a low oil pressure issue. The cold start issue im guessing was due to whoever built the motor installed the wrong size pistons. The bore was 87mm and the pistons were 86mm. there was massive scarring on the block and the pistons were also scarred up. To top it off the injectors come to find out are evo X injectors which seem to produce a different spray pattern which could have also made it difficult to start.
So MDR over in Texas is putting together my new motor. The new motor will be a built 4g64 2.1L. So hopefully I finally get this taken care of. Ill let you all know if i still have that CEL after my new motor is installed. I'm hoping this fixes my issues.

Ok I just wanted to give an update to this. My new motor has been installed and at first the CEL did come back. Come to find out, the front 02 sensor had some exposed wires that were touching. After repairing the sensor the CEL went away completely. I've put around 1500 miles on the new motor and the CEL has not come back.
