In my experience, it doesn't matter where you get your boost controller pressure source. The different locations may have different absolute pressure levels (pre-intercooler will have higher pressure levels than post intercooler, for the same manifold boost pressure), but once you set the boost controller you're all set. Just pick a convenient location.

I favor a close-to-the-compressor-outlet location, because it keeps the hoses really short. That makes for a tidy install and stable boost. If the hoses get too long, boost control can be unsteady.

Dan, have you tried both places in the EVO? I only tried the pressure signal from the hose between the intake and the BOV, so I don't have the results of both ways.
My MBC came from AMS and they specifically told me to tap from that place (I asked them because other discussions put doubt in my mind).
Anyway, my MBC appears to hold boost quite steady to the set value. Maybe I see a slightly higher reading when the outside temps are very low.

Thanks SilverEvo8 for a clear installation instruction picture. I just got the AMS MBC installed in my evo, it holds at a bar back from 1.5 all the way to redline now. Do you know how much psi is that? And how come when it's about 50 to 60 mph on neutral, I shift to the 3rd gear, the rpm rev to 5000 and it just stuck there. It seems like the fuel cut or something. Do you know what's wrong? Thanks.

Also, what did you do with the hoses that connect to the solonoid. What I did is taking them out of it and leave the nipples open. Is that ok?

1.5 bar = 21.75 psi. That's a little too high maybe you might want to try holding 1.38 bar (1 bar = 14.5 psi)...... I capped the nipples as per the diagram. I'm not sure what could be causing your throttle to stay open. Those open nipples could be a problem (look what it did for Janet Jackson ). Al kidding aside, I'd be concerned with anything like a stuck throttle or hitting fuel cuts. You might be boosting more than you think......
You might want to post a thread about the throttle issue.......

Good luck

So how many nipples need to be capped? One on the turbo, one on the intake and the two from the solonoid? Total is 4 right?

I'd definitely cap the one at the turbo and the one at the MAS pipe. I also capped the nipples at the factory boost control solenoid, but I'm not sure those are mandatory to cap. Still, just to make sure I'd cap the turbo, the MAS and the solenoid that's a total of 4 just as you say.

So you have no problem so far. I guess I have to cap those two nipples like you did. Thanks for you help. I just called AMS, they said they removed the solonoid on their car without the CEL on.

No, I've no problems except for some cold start hesitation that goes away pretty quickly. I left the solenoid alone. There seemed to be no need to remove it....
