Not sure if I woul call it "loping" sound, but yes changing the target idle will change the sound regardless of what cams are in it.

 

oh.. so there's no way I can figure out if it has cams installed unless open the valve cover?

No prob!
When you put the cover back, torque down just as indicated in the service manual. Too tight it would more likely cause leaks. If it has been a long while it may be a good idea for you to replace the gasket set, too.

 

I would open it up and take a look. The HKS are mild cams compared to the GSC and Kelfords though.
