Outer CV boot replacement how to?
Alright I am currently in the garage, my boost is torn and I have the axle on the car, I took the old boost off and I was hoping the spline end would come off and I could throw a new boost on? am i missing something? Please don't tell me I need to take the entire axle off take the first CV boost off and slide the boost all the way down to the outboard CV.

But, yeah, since you need to pull the inner boot you need two new boots. Also, you will need a snap ring pliers for the tripod and a pliers for the clamps - about $35 for the clamp pliers.

Do you have a link for the clamp pliers? Will he be repacking the ball bearings with graphited CV joint grease? I used ubiquitous zip ties to secure the dust boots on my MB G500's CV joints, instead of those funky metal clamps. Of course, I am strictly low budget.

wow! Tons of responses. I am pretty car oriented and realized that the outer CV does not come apart. So I did remove the axle and used the grease (graphite on the outer, and the brown, lighter grease on the inner. Little write up I did, and pics.
Alright I am in the garage, it is time for the axle boot. The outer boost on the driver side is torn, so it is time to repair the issue! I have ondemand5 which is pretty awesome, it also helps you understand certain precautions most people may not know about on specific cars. So not all axles are the same, ha I knew that but it was quite apparent when i took off the boot on the outer axle on the driver side.
You actually have to take off the axle, remove the inner two clamps, take that off, remove (1) C-clip to take the spider gears off, then take the boost off, and then you're able to get to the outer boot! Gees a lot of work lol to replace one damn boot. Also ondemand stressed, get all the grease out of the axle, mixing old and new grease is not good at all. They give you two tubes, one for the inboard CV and one for the outer CV.
New boot and parts.

In case anyone wants to know, the black grease is for the outer CV, the darker brown is for the inner CV, you have to [CLEAN] all the old grease out, if you do not damage will occur. They also included the new bands or clamps, and the C-clip for the spider.
After the outer CV was cleaned of all its old grease. It was actually breaking down, the grease was not fluid like, so I am happy I was able to get in there and replace it.

The CV cup from the inner CV

New OEM grease

Put it all back together without any issues. Also worked on "Melon" EVO tonight and got it running damn well.

Every boot kit I've seen comes with grease so deciding what grease to use is really not an issue.
Zip ties may be working at near their design strength when installed on a boot that doesn't leak grease which means they will eventually break.
OK, OK, point well taken. I shall definitely search online and pickup a set of dust boot clamp pliers the next time that I am up in the U.S. So, that I can secure the boot with the original metal clamps
