4G64 Block Questions

Hey guys, I bought an 03 Evo and about a week after I bought it, it spun a rod bearing. Believed to be a failed oil pump but not positive. I pulled the motor and took the complete short block to the machine shop to see what could be done about it and they called me and said that I have a 4G64 block and that is not what came in the 03 Evo's? Said he could only find a 4G63 in his databases? Im new to Evos and don't know much about them. He was saying that the cylinders are measuring to be 86.5mm and all I have found online is that stock is 85mm.

So I guess Im just trying to figure out exactly what I have and what I need to get. Because I have read that the 4G64 can come from multiple donor cars. He is telling me that all his parts dealers are giving him conflicting information about this particular block. I do know that I need a new crank and rods and bearings. I was going to go ahead and just rebuild the whole thing while its apart.

Any help would be great.

thanks,

-Mike

thats what it needs it sounds like

the previous owner probably built a 2.3L strocker engine.

2.3L are built with 4G64 blocks and 100mm cranks

Negative, 2.3L strokers are a 4G63 block with 100mm 4G64 cranks.

2.4L are the 4G64 block its 100mm crank, this is not a stroker.

He said that that pistons looked like they were cast aluminum, not the usual forged piston in a turbo motor.

Maybe the Block has been bored to 86.5mm previously? The motor had been apart before because it has head studs and other minor things done to it. Although I don't know the extent of the work done, I just know the visual things.

I think he may be right as the 4G64 bores are standard at 86.5mm

That makes sense as to why it spun a bearing, its all stock internals I could tell. It started barely leaking oil like a day before it blew. Thought I fixed the leak but apparently I didn't. What year Galant block could it be or are they all the same? or are they the same as the later Evo 2.4's? And also what about the Oil pump can they handle 4-500 whp? And I'm looking to delete the balance shaft as well, Do i need anything different since its a Galant block?

I forgot to mention that is a 7 bolt motor. I don't know if that makes any difference in anything.

Thanks

Evo's never came with a 2.4L. Stock they have a 2.0L.

You need a 00-03 (some 04) Galant, Outlander, and Eclipse for the 4g64 engine. Make sure the transmission is on the drivers side.

Seem like who ever sold it to you. Blew up the 2.0L and when to a junk yard and picked up a 2.4L for 50-150$ and put it in there and sold it to you.

My friend just made 850/740 on his 2.4L with a oem oil pump and balance shafts deleted.
