With such an aggressive OCI, you really don't need to run an extended life filter, but you probably have nothing to worry about by using a Royal Purple on your street car.

One other reason to consider synthetic motor oil is extended periods between oil changes. Petroleum-based oils generally require replacement every 3,500 to 7,500 miles, depending on service use. Synthetic oils can easily offer double the service life as their chemical composition does not break down over time. Several manufacturers have taken advantage of this and supply synthetic oil in their vehicles from the factory to extend oil-change intervals and extend engine longevity. Check your owner's manual or ask your service advisor if synthetic motor oil may be right for your vehicle or driving style.

So, I downloaded the entire AMSOIL catalog and took a quick peek at the application guide. It looks like the Ea15k20 is what they recommend for both the 4G63T and 4B11T:

In the beginning, the ea15k13 was what was recommended for evo, and that was the TINY oil filter that I first had - switched to the ea15k20 which was a more normal size comparable to the ea046

Huh. That's interesting.

It looks like the Ea15k13 is taller but thinner.

Nice test. Thanks for the data. I guess I'll be using amsoil filters to match their oils I run.

Andy says that the 13 fits, but without knowing the surface area of both filters I cannot say which would be ideal. According to the latest application on their site, AMSOIL recommends the EA15K20.

Great information. I religiously change my oil at 3,000 miles or less, but I am really surprised at the results of the factory filter, not that it really affects me since my OCI is so short, but I will be switching to Purlator's since they are cheaper and easily available at my local Wal-Mart.

Only about halfway through - but thank you very much!

I am pretty surprised about the Mitsu/Denso filters I was always told that OEM was the best by everyone I had talked to.... now if only I could have stocked up on Ea046 a couple of months ago!

Making an assumption (albeit a dark one), I think that auto manufacturers really only need to put a 'good enough' filter on the motor to ensure the car makes it through the warranty. After that... you're on your own.

should have taken a picture - i've had both, it seemed like the 13 was much smaller - it was a little taller but much much narrower, so i was alarmed and was what led me to make that other thread in the first place - go with the 20 - but there is a definite difference from the 46 as well (just in terms of exterior look, dont know about size etc)

That, coupled with who ever the lowest bidder was.

Make sure it's the Purolator PureOne filter you get as pictured, the cheaper Purolator (which is all my local Walmart carries) is not the same quality.

I used to run the PureOnes in my ex-wife's WRX and they were great filters. I am considering switching my Evo over to them. I've gotten them from Fleet Farm, Pepboys, and Amazon.
