The OFFICIAL Oil Filter Testing and Results Thread (4G63T/4B11T)

No idea who this guy is, but he has consistently been testing oils for a while it seems. I currently run Amsoil ZROD 10w30, which ranks a disappointing 32nd on this list, so I may switch to Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 or just SSO 0w30. It might benefit me to stay with ZROD though, given it's (claimed) designed for cars that tend to sit for a while, which my evo definitely does.

Blown.
Ironically I've been running the AMSoil SSO 0W30 in my track car for 51k miles.
Looks like I'll be getting some Oil Extreme concentrate to add to this case of AMSoil ZDDP I was considering switching to.

Amazing find Kyoo, thanks for sharing!

I tried it on my wifes 2006 jeep grand Cherokee and same thing. cold starts seemed to be noiser until oil pressures built up. I would have tried the eurospec but I just always read how a 40 weight is too thick for a stock 4g63 so I never tried that one, especially when Im now using a 5w30 that doesn't exhibit those issues for me.

golgo13 excellent write up
I can't believe I haven't seen this one before. I too am an OEM Mitsubishi oil filter only kind of guy. Glade its still an okay filter, but will be considering the AMS Oil filter on my next oil change. I just changed my oil on my Evo X yesterday too
Now I know for next time though
I would love to see more writes ups like this and don't know if there is a good one for Oil Quality or not, but there needs to be one if their isn't

You should read like the last 10 posts, we were just talking about oil quality...
Kyoo found a gold mine blog post.
Interesting. I have never seen the Euro L so I cant comment on it. Our dealership uses the other, Ultra Euro 5w40 instead of the mobil 1, and I do like it better as well. Like I said though, that one is only a 5w40 though and I don't feel the need to run that weight of oil otherwise I would try it for sure.
Not many people read the stickies.
Don't forget that Royal Purple performed as well as the AMS filter and the Purolator is an excellent choice as well if you're not worried about the thinner sidewalls.
Agreed, too bad the Evo is an aging platform. Unless the XI gets announced here soon, this site might go the way of the Ford Pinto.

Ya the Royal Purple I would consider as well, but I can just get my hands on AMSOIL products easier

I would hope that the Evo doesn't go the way of the Ford Pinto
I have owned 4 Evos over the last 8 years and just don't see myself not owning an Evo in the future. Great fun cars that I just can't get enough of
Reading the Oil Talk now thanks
