I just ordered 4 of the ea15k13 filters from amsoil to try out...But now I am bummed about the size, as they are a bit longer but much more narrower ..visually smaller to me than the stock Mitsu ones.... Has anyone used this size, on their higher hp setup yet? ...amsoil never recommended the larger (20) size to me and after reading this I am a bit upset ... My motor is a built 2.3 stroker running higher oil pressure at about 600 hp.... Before I utilize this, should I be cautious?

I have a few customers running the 13 and some running the 20. But for the most part we send out the 20.
A hand full of these are cars making 600 whp and off memory one customer pushes 820 down south in Miami

You will be perfectly fine. The EA AMSOIL filters have a much larger oil flow capacity than mostly anything out there. Next thing would be non filtering racing filters

How often do you change your oil?

It uses a Fram PH8A or equivalent filter, which are pretty good sized. I was thinking of mounting it in the area where the oem oil cooler is at, and just bolt it onto the frame rail in that area. I am already relocating my oil cooler to the front as well. That section of the oem undertray comes off separately too, iirc. If not I can modify so it will to make oil changes easier.

Summit also offers the dual oil filter version for that, but I think that just might a bit overkill,.
We did this with my old awd laser. It used a huge mustang filter. With the front bumper on, it was all hidden/protected. I dont have any better pics of it tho.

I tend to change it often....change my oil every 2000-2500 miles ....I am a huge control freak when it comes to oil viscosity break down, esp from fuel contamination or maybe it's me being paranoid ....about 1000-1500 miles my oil becomes DARK black and it smells of fuel....when I bought my car new (stock), the mobil one became black very quickly and I never got out of the habit ....the few extra dollars spent in early oil intervals is a nice piece of mind with my bigger investment motor .... I daily drive the car very aggressively, so it's always on my mind ... 2500 miles is the limit for me ....seems like my motor idles better, and gets slippery again after each oil change... So I think I am doing myself justice in doing so

Well that's comforting to know from you ....thanks ....maybe you should tell the guys at amsoil to update this information and give us the option for the bigger one ....I think I may be ordering the 20 after these four 13's are gone ....are the oil pressure resistance in the 2 filters the same as stock Mitsu ones? ...and if not, which one holds higher oil pressure longer?

I'm no oil expert, so others can chime in one way or the other but, as far as I understand it the oil needs to start breaking down to work and do its job. If you change your oil too frequently you may be just throwing money away. An aggressive OCI on any street car is anything less than 5k. I change my oil once every few track events and prior to that I would change it every 5k.

If you go back to the first page, you will see that I included oil filter specs so you can see how the other filters stack up against the DENSO OEM filter.

The results you posted for each filter is awesome...but amsoil filters with the smaller media sq/in area, kind of scares me, and me having the 13's in hand and not the 20's make it worse ....who's using the 13's ...maybe I should reorder the 20's and eat these 13's :/

Dud you will be fine. Look at the factuals and don't go by how you feel, Fellings have no bearing on true data.

The AMSOIL filters have by far hands down much more oil capacity than any other filter out in the market.

You will be fine man.

Fantastic test, I really appreciate all of your effort with this

When I first got my car I was only using the OEM filter, however I started using the WIX 57092 a couple of years ago with no complaints.

After seeing this test I an considering trying out the Purolator Pure One PL14459. My only concern is in regards to the one shortcoming you mentioned in the test about the construction of the housing.

My car is daily driven and my OCI is every 3000 miles so would I even see a benefit of using the Purolator over the Wix? Nonetheless I would like to give it a shot.

Just out of curiosity, when I look up the specific filter I keep getting the PL14610 but you used the shorter fatter PL14459 which I would prefer for the additional ground clearance but I just want to confirm that is indeed the correct filter. Thanks!

You would get the benefit of trapping more particulates <20μm in size. The amount of wear on your motor when compared to one of the other filters might be negligible, though. Your motor might break down due to other factors before the wear caused by microscopic metal particles becomes a factor, I think. The downside to running a blend or synthetic media filter is the cost.

So, I've found that quite often cross reference lists point at a different filter (which is usually the right threading) that is more than likely the filter for the Lancer and not the Evolution. I typically check a few reputable filter manufacturers to see which other filters they list as ones that are known to work on our cars. Believe it or not, I've found Amazon to get the filters right 100% of the time, so take that FWIW.

Thanks for your response. Im really glad you made this thread because I honestly never gave oil filters much consideration. I strive to pamper my car maintenance wise which is why my oil of choice is Amsoil SSO 0w30. I believe that Amsoil makes great products which you indeed confirmed in this thread.

I never gave the Amsoil filters much thought because I was under the impression that their unique value prop was that they could last longer which would allow me to extend my OCI which I didnt really care about. Thus I've been using the Wix filter and pocketed the extra $10.

I guess my point to all of this is their does indeed seem to be a larger benefit from the filter which is its added filtration(duh!) This is why the Pure One filter caught my eye because your test results proved its capabilities and it seems to provide great bang for the buck.

In regard to the specific filter model, I just checked amazon and they list the PL14610 as well. Can you confirm that the PL14459 fits as well? I know that Mitsubishi offers two different filters, the short fat one and the tall skinny one so I'm guessing these two models is the same deal?

Once again, thanks for your help and for conducting this test, I really appreciate it!

I had always sworn by Purolator pure one since back in the days. A lot of local diesel folks and engine builders swore by wix back then so that got me into them. The filtration is not as good as what I had thought, but I was able to get them really cheap, ~$4. The Purolator is great bang for the buck, but if I can find the Royal Purple locally for a good price thats what I will end up using.

Interesting, I heard the same thing about the Wix filters which is why I switched from OEM to them in the first place. What is the part number for the Purolator Pure One filter that you are using? For the Royal Purple filter, it appears to also be a tall skinny filter. I know they will "fit" but I would prefer to have the shorter fatter one considering how close the filter hangs to the ground. Has anyone used a different one that can confirm the fitment?

According to Amazon, it does not list the PL14610 as a perfect fit, heel2toe. I found that the PL14459 was listed as a correct fit. Pick one up, if you're worried about it, but I'm quite certain you'll be fine though.
