Removing transmission counterweight
Removing transmission counterweight
Hi all,
So I have an Evo MR and just installed the ETS UICP kit. Unfortunately, however, since the MR has the 6-speed transmission it also has a counterweight that sits on top of the transmission. When I shift in to reverse, the counterweight raises up and hits the UICP pipe!
I spoke with ETS and they said that this is a known issue and that I could just remove the counterweight and it would be fine. Before I do that though, I had a couple of questions:
1) Does anyone know what that counterweight really does? Any negative shifting effects from removing it?
2) If I remove it will I need any replacement bolts or anything? Not sure if they uses one long bolt that goes through the counterweight all the way down to the transmission, and thus I would need a shorter bolt to re-attach the shifter cable assembly.
Thanks in advance for the help!
