600 whp clutches.
600 whp clutches.
Alright peeps, im getting ready to start working on making 600 whp on my evo 9. My issue is right now im running ACT Heavy duty clutch kit. I know its not gonna hold under the torque levels im wanting to make, soooo i need some opinions on clutches that are not just good for the torque, but will last awhile. I dont care about chatter as long as my legs not gonna break in traffic. I need some real input on experiences with clutches. please if you have a $$2000 clutch dont even bother writing a reply. Im not paying that for 600 whp and prob 520 TQ.
Gotta pay to play, dude. Kinda hard to expect to make massive power and not fork out loot for a clutch that will hold it. Your options at that power level are almost all multi plate units that will set you back well over 1400 bucks.
if you DD your 600hp and its not track-only a triple is going to be a good bet. and yes you will end up paying 2000 for it.
if you dont have a built tranny or tcase for 520tq, then i guess go ahead and go put whatever 1,000$ clutch you want in it
Got wheel hop my tuner has a 800 whp evoi. Trust ive head all the pay to play routines. Its all about how you are on the clutch, got it. I am still interested in a clutch that isnt just for drag that last.

The Quartermaster 8-Leg is pretty much your only choice for that power level and under 2k. After that is Exedy triple or even more expensive is a carbonetics triple (which lasts longer then a Exedy IMHO).
There is no single plate clutch that will hold that power after the first time you floor it (not even drag racing).
Let me rephrase.
There is no clutch under 1500 that is going to hold that power.
What did you expect to pay.
The quartermaster 8 leg is cheaper to rebuild and cheaper on initial purchase and is daily drivable (the street not strip flywheel).
You find a clutch that is sub 1000, that holds over 500 lbs of TQ and is not a pain in the @$$ to drive daily or doesn't die after a few thousand miles let me know.

This is very true as to why i started this post, whatr you are telling me though is a 1500 dollar clutch is the only that works. i wanted this clutch, but man its expensive.
Any clutch will work...they just won't hold up to the constant abuse 500+wtq generates. We aren't trying to be dicks, it's just you aren't being realistic with wanting a new clutch that will last at that level for the price you want. It just doesn't work that way.

Exedy Triple's, while some swear by them others haven't had the same result.
My carbonetics triple was the BEST clutch i ever had. It could hold the power and it was uber streetable. It lasted for over 60k (through various HP/TQ levels from 380 to 460) and would've lasted longer if not improperly assembled and/or improperly installed.
Its also over 3k. So not the clutch for you keeping your price point in mind.
The Quartermaster is loud but it will hold the power. Discs are 250 a piece. Its cheap to rebuild. And at 1400/1500 + 150/250 for the HTOB its the cheapest clutch to purchase that can handle that power and be reliable.
I know Quartermasters have a bad rep for not last long but it seems this one is doing a good job.
If you are not trying to spend over 2k. the Only clutch that makes sense that has been proven is the Quartermaster 8-leg.
I know Competition clutch makes a twin that I THINK is similar but not enough people run that clutch for me to confidently recommend them. I know English Racing has been having good luck with their single plate, but their clutches have kinda been hit or miss in this community. I know they are trying to change that. Their clutches are def. more towards your price range. YMMV on longevity and reliability.
