FP Black vs GT3076

Anyone have any suggestions in choosing one of these (or any other factory fit Garrett). Better choice? Better driveability? Longer life? Better spool up? Better power band? etc.

The FP Red and FP Black have effectively pushed the GT3076 into obsolescence where the EVO platform is concerned. Being that the FP turbos are essentially factory replacements, they don't require the additional peripheral hardware required to fit the Garrett, they spool faster because they retain the original twinscroll configuration, and the FP Black definitely carries greater power potential.

It's basically a matter of spend less, get more vs. spend more, get less.

The 3076 is for slow Volkswagens. Stock frame is the way to go, and as a bonus the FP turbos come ball bearing too now.

Everything you mentioned about better drivability, powerband, etc is covered by a stock frame turbo whereas the 3076 covers none of those. As TedB said, the 3076 has been obsolete for some time now.

GT3076 is available as a bolt-on for the Evo. In terms of size it's more comparable to the red rather than black. I don't have enough data in regard to spool & max power comparison, but I think that Garretts are generally more durable based on my experience with auto-X, (antilag) equipped Evos.

You realize that your statement is at the very least a misleading generalization. You would not by any chance be hinting at the ATP "bolt-on" housing would you?

The latest, most state-of-the-art, improvements to the basic 3076 wheel design, such as the GTX 3076, and the FP HTA 3076, are not direct bolt-on turbos for our Evos, AFAIK. But, tell me if I am wrong.

I probably am, in fact, wrong about the GTX 3076 not being bolt-on as I just remembered reading something about an ATP adaptation for the GTX 3076 ( l should have kept my trap shut, huh?).

I was referring to the GTX (sorry, left off the X) stock location from ATP. Unless I'm mistaken, both FP and ATP provide the necessary hardware for complete installation so both should be factory replacements. The GTX is also a twin scroll, dual BB design and seems to be a few bucks cheaper than FP Black. I was almost completely set on FP Black until i can across a post on another forum about Garrett offering an exchange for their turbos for under $500 as long as the bearings were not toast. They just send you a new assembly once you send in your old one and give you a warranty. The catch is that if it has anyone elses hardware/housing on it, they will not touch it. I have also heard about the reliability of Garretts.
