Just an update, got a new stage 2 tranny from shepard transmission. Great guys, were very helpful, helped me decide to go 5 speed. I recommend them for any transmission needs. Super customer service and quick shipping. Hopefully the Evo will be back on the road after this weekend, this down time has allowed me to detail and install all my intercooler piping as well.

Yikes. That sounds seemed very external, and didn't seem to be effected by RPM, just motion. Its hard to tell, but drive shaft, axle joint, or even brocken brake pad jumped to my mind. Did it actually jolt when the sound came impeding your progress, like you hit a bump?

@MrJuls - I track my 6speed and always have. Its actually what it was intended for. In stock form the ratios are perfect for track duty. I prefer the way it shifts, but its not for drag racers. Its too short. I have a step built 6 speed, and i don't think the stock box is weak, even for moderate power. Based on everything I read, and my own tests, heat on track goes crazy, because that thing doesn't hold enough oil. I killed my 4 gear syncro, from what was essentially an endurance track day, where I didn't let the car cool down, and it was 110 degrees at Spring Mountian outside vegas. I now have a self made cooler, and it works very well. That would be the modification I suggest to anyone wanting to run a 6 speed, actually any trans on track, likely needs better cooling. Its trans insurance.

I got the final drive, and I regret that one. i don't make enough torque/power to make up for the loss in low gear low RPM grunt. MPG cruising got a huge bump though, and I do DD the evo too. I still preferred the stock ratios though. Maybe if i could make more grunt down low I might change my mind.

Thanks for the reply.I only do open track days nothing serious, and i'm only allowed to go about 4 laps because my water for the water/meth only lasts that long.So i think the car cools down enough when it's our class' turn to go again.

I'm going to replace the clutch when money allows, because i need a new one.And i'm waiting for my Torque solution shifter bushings as well.
