Amsoil ZROD 10w30 vs. Dominator 10w30?

I had originally thought that the Dominator oil was "too extreme" for me, and I assumed it would have a higher viscosity, etc. etc. but it actually has a lower viscosity (slightly).

Aside from price and OCI (which I do early anyway), is there a reason NOT to choose the dominator oil over the ZROD? Or was it strictly for those two points I mentioned?

From the little looking around that I've done, the "ideal" 10w30 oil is a synthetic oil that has very low viscosity for cold temperatures, maintains a viscosity 10-11 at operating temperatures, is very stable, and has a lot of additives. More or less these are the things to look for, I believe.

When the Dominator first came out, I just thought it's a racing oil, and too extreme, but maybe not now that I know a little more? It does seem a little more volatile than the ZROD, but that seems pretty much it - thoughts?

i run this.

10w30 was giving me an oil light flicker during the summer when coming to a stop and stepping on the clutch. no more with the 10w40, plus it seems to be popular with the track guys.

i used to get that - when creeping forward really slowly with just the clutch right? oil pressure drops down, but i don't think thicker oil is an answer per se, and not really a problem to me. i'm more thinking about wear etc

Too high of zinc(I think that's the one) can wear out your cat early if that matters to you. I seem to remember the dominator lacking cleaning detergents, so if this is a DD that may not be the best oil.

I would like to know what these cleaning agents that the Dominator supposedly lacks because my UOA of this stuff seems really similar to the other amsoil 10w30 in regards to the cleaning agents used. There was nothing drastically lacking to make me think it was a pure race oil. I think it may have a higher flash point than the zrod, but other than that, for someone who does a frequent OCI, there shouldn't be much of a difference.

maybe the detergents are another thing that don't matter if the OCI's are frequent enough?

Isn't a higher flash point a good thing btw? So it takes a higher temp to catch on fire?

I'd like to try the Zrod, but Amsoil products are not available in my area! Meanwhile, I'm using the Liqui Moly 10w60

If you can get Shell Helix Ultra 0w40 in your part of the world then I would try that. From what Ive been researching it seems like a really great oil. Ive been trying to find some to test, but its tough as it doesnt seem to be sold in the USA.

so for street driven cars w/ cats, zrod is the way to go? it didn't strike me that the dominator had that much more zddp than zrod.. maybe just a matter of not really having a lot of additives and detergents for a street car?

If i was daily driving an evo again i would use zrod. Spec Ops motorsports i believe uses it on all their builds.
The oil has aprox same zddp than dominator plus the detergents and anti corrosion additives for folks who store the cars.
But sure dominator has its place in the full blown racing arena

You are correct, sir. They just started using dominator in some shop cars that mostly see the track a few times and then change all fluids; not really any long-term info on that, but engines are still good.

Actually, i ended up getting metal contamination in my oil from a turbo, a week after it was built. Changed turbo, changed oil twice, and so far all the bearings are looking fine. Somehow, but the oil has to help. I was turning 9000rpm, in a 2.4L, on that bad oil
