Hi, doesn't matter which way round you wire it, if you want to test the solenoid, just bench test it from a good 12v battery.

The Mivec pulley has a lock-out facility, I believe it's to stop it just flailing around if oil pressure isn't enough to operate it.....I doubt you have an oil pressure related issue, however may be worth putting a gauge on and finding out for sure. Very unusual if it has locked out, but it seems to be getting to the stage where you can't rule out anything.

A few people who have converted an 8 to run on Mivec have said that they didn't retrofit a check valve in the oil line, and it didn't make a difference to the way it operated, perhaps you could remove yours temporarily, just as a test?

Might be worth checking to see if the ECU is sending a signal, or maybe checking for a wiring fault between it and the oil control valve.

Good luck with it, stuff like this is a PITA!

Thanks for the input guys. Let me update here. I may have had a couple of threads on this, because the issue jumped around a bit. My last update I replaced the oilcan. Yay, more money I didn't need to spend, but I had to try something. I systematically replaced all the mivec parts one at a time that I got from streethisevo. Everything was fine, oil pan fine. I bought an oil pressure setup from MAP so I could get some readings and try to log that. Before I got to that I tried what the Mitsu mechanic told me a long time ago. That I should pressure clean out the passages in the head for the mivec system.

I thought this would be rediculous because of all the in line filters and meshes. But desperate I decided to remove the intake came again, and do the work. Its amazing how easy that is when you have done it 20 times. I blasted out under high pressure the head passages. I setup a trap on the other end that I could catch anything big. I didn't find a smoking gun, but I did notice that the gasket maker I used for the cam gear side bearing cap had lots of stuff that came off in a weird way. Its difficult to explain, because I had to pry the cap off of course. But something looking suspicious. It could be I used too much gasket maker when I replaced that cap last time.

I blasted everything a few times, re-essembled everything. Noise, gone. So something could have been in the passages or the end cap could have pinched in a piece of gasket enough to disrupt flow, but either way clearing out the oil passages no matter the root cause solved the problem.

I have this same noise. I also have P0011 timing over advanced. Have unknown cams installed by previous owner but owned car for 3000 miles without throwing this code so I don't think it's anything with cams. Might have to try this.

Car has 25k miles. You think it could be bad? It might just not be getting sufficient oil.

OP, maybe you should update the first post with the resolution.

Right but just because that's what caused the issue for him doesn't mean that's how it is for everyone. It could be any component of mivec not working.
