Im sure people run them. I personally run the OEM evo 9 kevlar one. Its cheaper in cost and stronger. There is no difference in length from an 8 to a 9.

Gates Racing T167RB1 - $140~

Found a gates racing belt for $120 shipped.

But Ebay sell the oem Evo 9 Kevlar timing belt for $83.
I might just get that one.

I'm planing a strokerd 4G64 build with an E9 head, reading this thread has been very useful. A question regarding piston compression, my goal is 10.5:1 comp ratio, I'm not sure how to achieve it. Reading this thread I found that several people had ported the head to have the combustion chamber match bore size. I wonder by how much would that affect the pressure ratio? I need to get pressure ratio right ordering the correct CR pistons, correct head gasket thickness & whether to port the combustion chamber or not. I'd appreciate your advice.
Also, no one mentioned the oil pan, do you keep the 64 pan or the 63's or use an aftermarket pan such as the AMS'?

I have a question......
Is the Oem Evo 9 timing belt made of Kevlar????

So it's better than the oem Evo 8 timing belt?

Can someone give me the parts # for the Oem evo 9 timing belt if indeed it's a Kevlar belt!!!!

I also used the 4g63 tensioner. It works fine.

To my knowledge no oem belt has kevlar. If you want to get a kevlar belt go with a Gates or HKS or something along those lines. I used a 63 Gates belt and it worked out just fine with adjustable cam gears.

Who all said it was? Cut one apart and find out. The 2 or 3 I have cut from junk yards were just regular material no Kevlar. If you want a reliable belt that for sure is Kevlar, get a Gates.

If you perform bowl work to the head, you should measure the CC of it when you are done. My guess is minimal CC changes for this. Maybe 2-3ccs you can add with cleaning it up and matching it to the bore. I measured mine a few years ago and it was around 2cc more. To achieve 10.5:1 you should run it in a compression calculator where you can enter in the cc, headgasket thickness, deck height and compression height. You will be able to figure this out pretty quick. I would add 2ccs to the head chamber and you can order a thicker headgasket to drop compression if you wanted.

For the oil pan, you have to run the evo one or the downpipe wont clear. Also with the evo pickup tube.

1145A038 the oem part number for the 9 belt. If it wasnt kevlar, why would they have a different part number than the 8 belt? Dont you think they would just carryover the part to the 9 if it was in fact the same. Also, I have cut them when doing a build or replacing a headgasket. They are kevlar.

Thank you Evolve VIII for the feedback.
I had asked about the 4G64 block part # in a separate post & didn't get an answer so I'll ask here again, hoping for a good answer.
I have contacted the dealership about a new 4G64 block & they gave me two numbers:
MD379012 (outlander '03)
& a more expensive MD350944 (eclipse '00-05 / galant '99-03)
Which one is best to use?
Also, if you guys know of a reliable source/vendor that offers good used 4G64 blocks then let me know, I need an empty block, without internals & head.

So the Evo 8 timing belt is not Kelvar but the Evo 9 is Kelvar belt. Now you know.

You probably cut a Evo 8 belt that the previous Evo owner that own that Evo put a cheaper Evo 8 belt in it.
Yes indeed, the Evo 9 belt is made of Kelvar. Also that's why the parts number of the Evo 8 and 9 timing belt are different and also a slightly higher price that a Evo 8 belt.
Also , the dealership say it is made of Kelvar.
