Help!!

Hey everyone I have a question in regards to clutch/tranny chatter. I recently was having a problem every time I let off the gas when driving I would hear a lot of chatter.and when idle would hear it but not when pressing the clutch in. so I had the clutch replaced(needed it anyways) I had a exedy stage 1 put in. and for the first drive it sounded fine. but now its slowly starting to happen again but not nearly as loud. it used to be crazy loud but now its enough to me he thinks it is an input shaft bearing and tranny pretty much may need to be torn apart to fix and im looking at a 2k bill.... is he just assuming ? is it just the fly wheel like I hope? my 03 evo only has 60k miles so idk... any input is greatly appreciated!

Thank you all!

Quick question, what TOB did you use on your clutch install? And, how many miles since the clutch job?

I know the Exedy stage 1 is sold as an OEM replacement but in my opinion it is not as good of clutch.

Alright, So you forgot to mention what clutch is in the car now?
Older ACTs have been known to chatter a sh!ton from my memory.

My mistake I got a little lost in your post..
If you simply google

"exedy stage 1 chatter"

there are a couple of threads about it. That would be my guess since exedy is complete crap. I wouldnt but anything from exedy after seeing how horrible their twin disk was. Worst $1500 I ever spent in my life

Exedy is one of the best... Especially if you cross over to twin... You probably ****ed up the install..

As for the op... The input shaft rides on roller bearings... It cannot be the problem unless one of the ***** fell out and i'm sure you would have noticed.., as for the 2k bill are you going to the dealer?

And TOB mean throw out bearing... Its very possible its bad and during the clutch install it was greased like it should have been... Not the grease is slung/baked off and its chattering again... You can ask the shop if they replaced it or not...

A VERY well known shop did the install and they did a great job.
Any other pointers buddy?

The 6 (ALL) spring clips broke off of the floater plate.
Making the clutch- impossible to get into gear, wear unevenly, and eventually slip after 5,000 miles. Exedy isnt anything special.
Cusco makes a clutch 100% identical to the Exedy twin how strange..
I went for the new QuaterMaster twin and never looked back.

A Bad TOB would cause an issue with disengaging. Not to mention it would not chatter.. even if it was bad.
And on top of that, the TOB doesnt spin with the clutch, so how could it sling off grease?
I dont think he mentioned anything about an issue getting it into gear or shifting between gears..

But after re-reading the OP, I would contact Shep, or maybe TRE and chat with them over the phone about possible issues. They might be able to get you a better deal on the rebuild if you do need one.

So spoke with shop again. They are still telling me its a bearing in my tranny making that noise.. And it has to get rebuilt. I just don't see how after only 60k miles that could happen.
