The Red box is a wastegate. The Blue box should be the location of the blow off. Try taking more pics of near the Blue box. Its weird there is an aftermarket wastegate on what looks to be a stock turbo setup.

Def an aftermarket set up. Looks like no MAF either from the pic. Aftermarket ECU possibly or SD on the stock ECU

As for the Blue bow that's where the UICP manufacturer put the bov flange.

Is it just capped off? If it is follow the pipe back to the IC then to the turbo. Is there a BOV anywhere in line

There appears to be a fitting at the down bent of the UICP. IAT Sensor possibly?

It's just capped off, I might need more light to see that, the pipe seems to go straight to the intercooler. The tuning shop I bought it from had it running 1.8 Bar so I'm hoping they didnt just leave it off...

The ECU is an FCON VPro, unfortunately there isnt a tuning shop in Germany capable of dealing with them, so I'm stuck with it.

Can you take a pic of the turbo itself? Where the intake attaches. Its possible its a BW turbo with BOV built in or look behind the bumper for a BOV. In the video it does sound clear that there is a BOV so we'll just have to track it down.

Looks to me like you're running a dose pipe (no BOV).

Don't panic, it's a genuine setup and is common in certain communities, RBs and 3SGTEs are quite into the dose setup. Not very common in the evo world though, I've only heard of one.

If you feel better with one, slap one on. If you're not sure, talk to the previous owner if you can, they should know about the setup.

Edit: google dose pipe and watch the YouTube video called dose pipe flutter. The noise is the charged air going back through the turbine.

After taking a good look at it again it DOES appear I have no BOV.

Can anyone comment on the "no maf" comment before? I'm also not sure where that should be, but I was under the impression it was impossible to even run a modern car without a MAF

Evos have MAF sensors from the factory. Your car does not as it is running an aftermarket ECU. It would be on the intake pipe, it's not

Likely using an IAT and MAP sensor for SD Tuning

The maf sensor would have been located directly after the air filter leading into the compressor side of the turbo. It should be right after that mushroom filter but as mentioned it appears to be gone which would mean your running a SD tune.

Awesome, thanks guys!

I think I'll be getting rid of that aftermarket FCON V Pro, I still havent found anyone capable of tuning it for me. There are a few guys in the area I'm at that can tune the stock ECU's though, but I imagine I'll have to source myself another stock ECU wiring and MAF then.

You can run the stock ecu maf-less. Your blow off valve has been capped and covered in previous posts, the smaller one is for the SAS .

I sent him an email! I hope he responds soon!

Thanks to everyone here for the help so far, this has been a great learning experience so far.

I'm not sold on the lack of a wastegate so far, but I've been driving it HARD for six or so months now, with no issues. I had it on the autobahn today doing 170 mph at full boost!

You have a wastegate, it is the blue device on your exhaust manifold. The bit you thought was a boost controller and posted a pic of.

Running without a blow off valve (also known as a diverter valve and other names) is a hot topic. Do you need it? Depends who you ask. I have spent a fair amount of time researching and I was not able to find a turbo failure that a lack of a BOV contributed to.
