RPM jump

2005 Evo VIII, Cruising in 5th gear at 65 mph about 2800rpm and I step into it and the rpms will jump to redline until I get off the gas. Its the same feeling as if I were on ice, but the tired don't spin any faster.
Any ideas?

This is the next clutch going in my car. Skeptical of the unsprung disc in a street car but the positive exps speak for themselves

Stock disc, new stock pressure plate, TO bearing plus refinishing the flywheel = $500.

Competition Clutch 5152-2100 with resurfaced OEM flywheel. Should be less than $400 if you PM vendors and shop around.

i totally agree..... for someone with your power haha. but for the normal 400whp and below owners, you can get a comp clutch or act imo for that price range.

Ordered a comp stage 3. Great reviews all around.

How many miles on the car? Mods?

I have 112k miles with minor bolt ons. Stock clutch is dying. Ordered a Competition Stage 2 (maperformance) and Competition light flywheel (new off of eBay) and was out about $700. It's going to cost another 900-1000 for labor. Really sucks, but that is the price of owning an Evo.

92k miles, and a good handful of bolt ons. Injectors and cams as well. Tuned to 25lbs 336awhp/359awtq. And it cost you that much? On map I found my comp stage three for 469, and I'm getting the OEM flywheel resurfaced. I saw comp stage 2 on there for 417. And where are you from? I have the local performance and tuning shop in Indianapolis doing it and it's 600 labor.

Memphis area. Don't think there's anyone near me. Taking it to a high-end Mercedes shop.
