Hole burnt into cylinder head
My divot was on my blocks deck, just outside of the fire ring. We tried to weld it but it wouldn't weld clean. I ground out the bad weld then lapped the block with a proper lapping block, some fine grit sand paper, and plenty of WD-40. It smoothed out nicely, although the divot is still very apparent. The head had a huge hole blown out of it. It was welded and resurfaced. I used copper spray on the new head gasket to help with any imperfections there might be left, but the motor has held up to plenty of abuse and high boost since. It was a lot of work, but its seemed to pay off thus far.
Anyways, find a reputable shop, they should be able to repair the head. I've seen some serious carnage repaired with some welding and good machine work.

As long as the divot is outside of the fire ring and the head, block, and head gasket are prepared correctly, you should be ok to go. You may be on borrowed time, but my repairs have been good for some time and I'll soon be pushing the motor hard once again in the near future, maybe as soon as this week. It's held up to varying pump gas and ethanol tunes from 26 to 35psi so far for a couple years now, so another 5psi should be good to go... it's the timing I'm worried about ad I need to be careful with that. The divot is far enough from the fire ring and I think it'll be ok. I expect something else to let go before the finger can be pointed at the divot'd block.
I am in the same boat as you now. There is a divot in the head.

If I get the deck resurfaced the pistons will stick out .001 over the deck.
My dilemma with that is with a 9 HG will the extra thickness give me enough piston to valve clearance still?
The other option is that the machine shop has said he has repaired heads and blocks by drilling the hole out and tapping it and plugging with a very strong bolt made out of some special metal. He can then smooth it out and it will all be uniform. He showed us a few heads and you can't tell that it was ever plugged at all. Has anyone ever dealt with that?
Pics of the other cylinders coming tonight.

ahh this truely does suck. I have gotten in the habbit of spending $80 a year plus another $24 for shipping to send my 2150s to FIC for cleaning and flow testing. The ~100 bucks i feel is like an expensive oil change, that takes about 6 buisness days to complete. down time sucks but the couple thousand dollar repair bill i would like to avoid.
I have no idea on the repair figures but I can imagine it will not be cheap. A happy fuel system = a happy driver. For the most part.
