hard to shift
hard to shift
I tried looking for this and couldn't find anybody who had this problem with this model evo. Hopefully you guys can help me. I have an evo 8 and this past week it has become harder and harder to get my car in reverse out of the garage, it will roll slowly when i put the shifter in the direction of reverse but won't let me fully put it in gear. I can manage to get it out of the garage that way, then it is impossible to get it into first and second. The start of the week it just kind of chomped through the shift pattern and now it won't get in gear at all. It seems after the car has been rolling around for awhile (15min) or so, it will then start engageing third, then second, then first. I learned this after getting stuck after work in the middle of the entrance gate..This past weekend I had it warm up for a long while in the garage and I was able to get it to a transmission shop just fine, very confusing, no gear problems at all. They are looking at it now, I suggested to them to try adjusting the clutch and they said they aren't done yet but it seems to be a hydrolic problem..What do you guys think?
update
just got the evo back from this shop, very sketchy synopsis, guy said a "hydraulic part needed to be replaced for the clutch and that I had very low transmission fluid." They charged me $109 to replace the fluids and for the hour of labor....I asked them if they did a clutch adjustment and he said he couldn't touch the clutch until the hydraulic part was fixed, yet driving home I noticed an immediate HUGE difference in the clutch. Way more range now. idk...
Experienced the same thing with an Evo 9 a week back. The shifter had difficulty going into reverse. The solution was changing the transmission fluid. The owner felt the difference immediately and now it shifts like butter.
For piece of mind just check to see that they used OEM transmission fluid or a compatible aftermarket transmission fluid.

im also kind of having this problem with my 5 speed evo 8 it is hard to get it to go into reverse and to go into first from a stop, but if i go to first as im slowing to a stop and right as im almost to a stop first falls into place i think i might have a syncro problem what do you think?

I had this problem A while back with mine as well, running A act clutch. The way it ended up running properly was when I changed my drivetrain fluids, added A SS upper clutch line and restrictor pill removal. Shifts like butter now.
I think it has to be the fluid change and properly bleed the system than you should not have this problem.

If u turn the car off does it shift any smother? Mine would get stuck in reverse u would turn the engine off then it would go in gear, ended up changing to a new clutch and the problems gone.
do you have a stage 2 or higher pressure plate?
sounds like your clutch is dragging to me. if your car is moving while you think you have the clutch pedal all the way down released engagement, the disc is still rubbing and is not fully disengaged.
Changing fluids helps to smooth out shifting but it would only mask the real problem of your pressure plate not fully disengaging.
I would suggest doing a clutch pedal adjustment before anything else to get more release travel.
What you need to do is take the clutch pedal pin off and screw it counter clockwise more which will make it harder to put the pin back in because you have to "preload" the master (press it in more) cylinder in order to get the pedal pin back in.
This will make it have a longer release when you press the clutch pedal and hopefully get it to fully disengage.

Save yourself the time and money and re-adjust your clutch position nut/rod from the clutch petal. Loosen till you can not only put in gear but doesnt creep when clutch pedal down. This rod tends to loosen up over time and most ppl just buy a clutch or tranny and never check it.
