Another evo won't go into gear after clutch install

Hey guys, before I get flamed I read through multiple threads trying to find answers but found nothing solid. So I just rebuilt my exedy twin and drove it for the first time today. With the car off it goes in all the gears perfectly. When it's running it goes into all gears but reverse.

No grinding just feels like it's hitting a wall. I had my pedal adjusted almost all of the way out, and read that having it too far out could cause issues. So I took it in a little and the car wouldn't go into any gears at all. But I pretty much maxed the adjuster bolt out and it won't go into reverse, so I can't raise it any.

I have a monoloc if that makes any difference but I don't think the wave clip popped off or whatever happens. I was very careful during the install and payed close attention to what it was doing. Also my linkages are all clear and not interfering with anything. The clutch is smooth as hell and feels amazing when driving, I'm not sure what could be the issue.

I'm thinking maybe having air in the clutch line could be taking up some of my movement but the pedal doesn't feel spongy. Please someone help me out, I really wanna drive this thing!

Any explanation of why the wave clip does this? How can I check to see if it is? Why does it only effect reverse?

Clip off, then you car will act like the gears have a wall....
...downside, you will have to basically drop the tranny again, or to go in reverse in your case put it in reverse while off

What I don't get though is if it was the clip wouldn't it effect all gears? 1-5 shift flawlessly, no grinding or binding. It's only reverse. I don't understand how it could only effect one gear

Ok so I have an update. Today I bled the slave cylinder and got some air out of it, and I also topped off my transmission since I found the fluid was a little low. Now the car will shift into all gears and drives smoothly. Although shifting into reverse is a little notchy.

I still have my pedal adjusted as high as it will go though, and the clutch starts to grab pretty quickly once you let the pedal up. Is this just a break in thing? I feel like the clutch is barely disengaging enough for the car to go into gear. Is this something that I just have to let it run it's course?

any update here? I feel like a dummy because I am having the same issue, yet I have done this job more than a few times...Exedy twin rebuild, with new discs and intermediate plate. car is still in the air, clutch adjusted all the way out, and bled, won't go into gear with out revving. NOTE* while manipulating the clutch fork by hand, I don't see much movement through the inspection holes...just the input shaft, no movement of discs or PP really...

Well I did end up adjusting the pedal as far out as possible. And I also filled the transmission fully with fluid and it was working decently. It was still a little notchy going into reverse but it would go. But now I have found that it really fights me when the car is facing downhill. It's not grinding or anything but when the nose is lower than the tail reverse and first get notchy

@ Josh, so I basically had the EXACT same problem. Thought it was the wave clip, so I dropped the gear box AGAIN. took apart the clutch and inspected to make sure I didn't do something stupid like install incorrectly. Everything is assembled correctly, but still the same lousy engagement. How many miles are on your pressure plate/clutch cover and flywheel. Did you cut the flywheel.

Pressure plate probably has 150 miles on it. Not sure how many miles on the cover, it's the original one. And I did have the flywheel resurfaced along with the towers cut.

From TRE: DO NOT LET THE TRANSMISSION HANG BY THE INPUT SHAFT. This will warp the clutch disc and cause the disc to drag on the pressure plate & flywheel which will make the transmission block shifts. This is extremely common among the EVOs because the trans is heavy.

Also, if you didnt cut the towers, the clutch would slip and not cause it to drag.
