Problems going into 5th
I am having problems getting into 5th. Even when the car is off it will not go in. But if the car is cold it works just fine until it's warmed up. Sometimes it goes on fine other times it's impossible to get in. I'm hoping it just needs fluid if not what should I check after I change that ? Reverse works fine btw.
I myself haven't Iv only had it 10 to 12k miles and the previous owner claimed he had it done but he also claimed he had the plugs replaced come to find out he replaced it with the wrong plugs. That fixed the miss problem I had up top end. I'm changing the fluids to redline this afternoon hoping this will fix the problem. Also reverse was really tight last week and was acting funny. But it's normal now.
I'm guessing it's your transmission fluid as well since when it's cold the fluid is thicker and reduces the friction as opposed to when it's warm and water-like, if ofcourse the oil has lost it's viscosity.
Hopefully it's just that simple. Let us know.

Redline....to be blunt, I think it sucks. Tendency to foam, standard cold flow temps, doesn't seem to be very high quality to me, seems more like generic stuff. I've used it once, I was not impressed.
I'd guess amsoil is slightly better than redline looking at their data sheets. But I have not tried it.
But I'd recommend you try motul gear 300, I looked at the engineering data sheets and the viscosity properties of this particular oil seems to be optimal for our transmission and they use higher quality base oil than redline. I've driven an evo with it and it felt good, but it's not in my car at the moment.
Not all 75w-90s are created equal, there is actually a larger variance allowed for gear oil weight than for engine oil. So to really know how it will behave/feel it is best to look at the engineering data sheets. The motul gear 300 is more comparable to a 70w-90 because of it's excellent cold flow properties, and there is a company that actually makes 70w-90 gear oil and it is racing gear oil.
If that doesn't fix your problem, you probably need a rebuild, the previous owner may have grinded 5th really bad. But actually check your underhood shifter bushings, they are rubber and even though you have low miles, age will take it's course, mine were pretty bad even at 60-70k or after 6 years old and it shifted bad into all gears but not specifically 5th, but I've run into an evo with 5th gear problems like yours and it wasn't the fluid or clutch, we didn't touch his shifter bushings but I doubt it was that either, we were pretty sure he needed a rebuild.

probel went away on its own. I ordered amsoil should be here this week. but after twi days of doing it the problem went away by itself. I cant explain it. still changing the fluid though.
