Problems shifting, any ideas?

Hey guys. So I went racing yesterday at the track (didn't do to bad for only my second time). Everything went well and all was fine. I noticed on my ride home; that my car would not go into 5th or 6th gear. It would go in, but it was really difficult, especially going into 6th. Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else, or if anybody had any ideas on what it could be? I'm going to change the transmission fluids to see if there is anything metallic in it, but could it also possibly be clutch or synchro related?

Yep, has happened to me a couple of times, but for some reason, it sorted itself out magically... I promise you I'm not lying... I don't know if it was the fork or synchros or what, but I just used to shift into 5th and 6th whether the transmission liked it or not, and it just sorted itself out in the end as if nothing happened...

Does your 5th and 6th grind or does it just feel a little stiffer to shift into?

Your syncrhos are sticking. Try adding Lucas oil during your oil change.Dont push to hard you can crack or brack shifting forks.

Nope, doesn't grind. It just feels a little stiffer to get into. And it's JUST 5th and 6th, all the other gears feel fine and shift smoothly. And like I said it's more so 6th gear. I wanted to change all the fluids and stuff just so I don't jump to conclusions.

change your fluids, look in the old fluid for a sparkle, if the old fluid sparkles, you might have messed up your synchros a little. Also, try adjusting the clutch and see if that helps. These 6 speeds don't like to take a beating.

Definitely will. I know! Up until this point I'm like the 6 speed treats me great and now I'm like....****! Does anybody have any recommendations for certain fluids I should use?

you're most likely experiencing clutch drag..it pretty natural and can usually be worked around by adjusting your clutch but it isnt a real permanent solution. last time i stopped at jacks i got Redline MT90. They recommend this fluid be used in everything they build, however this is only if you cant get the actual oem 6 speed specific fluid. jacks has a pretty good write up on here that addresses issues like what you've described here---

Awesome article thanks! I haven't had time to look at it yet but I plan to start checking it out this week to see what it may be. I've gotten a couple different responses from numerous people so checking it out is the first step.
