I placed second in Stock Appearing at The Shootout on an FP 71HTA compressor upgrade. I literally switched CHRA's and utilized the 9 j pipe and was on my way.
I make 442whp 448wtq @33psi on STM's Mustang Dyno. I ran a 10.92@130.05mph a few weeks back at my home track. I will do a build/dyno sheet thread but this little guy is badass. Forced Performance hit the nail on the head with this one, and it sounds amazing.
For anyone who is on Instagram, look up @STMTuned's IG page and scroll back a few weeks and you can see my dyno pulls.

I think this turbo is calling my name this winter. My car is mostly auto x and track. I only drag when I go to the shootout for max effort. I think this will give me a little more that I think I'll need to stand a chance in drag. I would like to see some e85 dyno sheets and see how boost comes on.

Good to know. I would probably stay with the standard compressor cover for now so I don't have to change my intake setup. And in regards to oil I'm running Penrite 10W-40 racing oil. What wga were you using on this turbo when you hit 442/448

I'm running it for auto-x and I really like the turbo. For a 2.0L it's very well suited and I'm using my ported 9.8cm hotside for a little extra spool. No issues with fitment and no lines to buy. I got my CHRA brand new from FP for $500. I couldn't pass up the upgrade for the price over the stock early VIII turbo.
FYI, these turbos don't have the best record for longevity especially at 27+ psi. I would recommend doing some more searching on the turbo and judge for yourself. For me, my car is primarily used for auto-x and as such really doesn't get driven much. I knew the risk and still said screw it due to the insanely cheap price.

OP the turbo is a Great +1 turbo that will allow you to retain a totally stock look and put another 90-100HP worth of air flow on the table to use. Since it uses a stock sized TD05H turbine and a close to stock dimension billet compressor wheel spool doesn't increase while airflow does. So if you're looking for high 300s to low 400s and want as quick of response as possible the 71HTA is more than worth it.

Awesome thank you for the information, expect to be recieve an order for one shortly.
I'm glad you're happy with the turbo and unless you develop a boost leak or have other issues there's no reason this turbo should last just as long as a factory MHI 1580 stock turbo. We have sold a LOT of 71HTAs over the years, A LOT, and we rarely see them back. When we do see them back it's usually due to over speed conditions or just crap lubrication, unfortunately the 100's of people who are using the turbo who haven't had problems don't start threads on the internet about it to contrast the negative bits.

I ordered mine on a Monday, had it by the following Thursday, a week before the Shootout. They were cranking turbos out too around that time.
I used the plain ole stock IX gate that it came with preloaded a bit. It made 442/448 on STM's mustang dyno, my car barely touched 400whp on the same dyno maxed out on the stock 8 turbo, whereas the 71HTA is deep into the 400's in hp/tq wayyy longer. Again, I'll get my graph up in a thread shortly about my experience with the turbo which is nothing but positive.

Hey Michael, would this turbo be an upgrade from an old school FP green? Or anyone else knows if it is......
