engine bearing clearence concerns

Okay so i've had several different things said about my bearing clearences for this new engine. Its a 2.0 long rod. Shooting for mid 500hp maybe low 600hp. The mains .002 the rods .0018. I know this is within the factory spec. Ive seen factory blocks make the power im shooting for. Just wondering if anyone had ran clearences similar to these. I know alot of other full race motors run a little looser then get tore down and rebuilt. Im not gonna drag race the car full bore over and over. Just a street car thats fun.

It'll be fine. Those are pretty ideal tolerances..

We could mix n match OEM bearings to get tighter clearances, but the kings seem to be keeping me far below the service limit. However, .002 is higher than recommend per the service manual.
With the mileage on my engine, I was probably .002 before the build anyway LOL

A good rule of thumb for a high performance engine is one thou of clearance per inch of journal diameter. I've never had any issues building anything with that old school "hot rod" "spec".

Another good one to keep in mind is: "If your bearings are tight, everybody knows. If they're loose (within reason), only you know."

All the people I've talked to so far shops included. Say that a little on the tight end for my clearances. With that in mind I realize these guys are running race only engines that get tore down and rebuilt. So I know on my main I'm good because it's within factory spec but towards the loser end which is what people shoot for with built motors. It's the rod bearings to have me concerned. Engine builder says do not run anything thicker than a 40 weight oil because of the clearances. So I'm hearing conflicting things..

Way too concerned. Run it.

Did you check rod side clearance?
