GSC S2 cam with oem retainers?

Hi guys,
Need help, im planning to install GSC S2 cam together with GSC beehive springs. My question are;

1. Do i need to change retainer too?
2. Can i use the OEM retainers together with S2 and beehive springs?

TQ

depends how high you're going to rev your engine. if you're going to go through the trouble of replacing valve springs, why not pay a hundred more to do retainers also. the stock aluminum one are slightly lighter than the Ti ones though, but obviously the Ti are stronger.

i have a low mileage set for sale btw

My question is why not do them while you're in there already. Makes sense to spend a little extra cash and do it all at once. You can get away with what you want to do.

Hard to say if that wasn't or wasn't from using a beehive retainer on a standard spring. The springs he plans on using are beehive, and designed for the stock retainers. Those manleys are designed to go into a DSM, which comes with standard valve springs.

Are you running OEM retainers on your GSC springs?

No, I bought the kit with retainers.

The spring rate and cams aren't what broke the retainers. It was using the wrong shape spring. This created more leverage on the retainer, which is most likely what broke them. If the stock retainers weren't safe, GSC wouldn't sell springs to use with them.

Do you have first hand knowledge that the OEM retainers work with GSC springs? Have you asked GSC if using OEM retainers is ok to do with their springs?

5039 Beehive Rev and Boost range (using an S2 profile camshaft set)
  • Max RPM: 8200
  • Max boost: 25 psi
5039 Beehive Max lift
  • Do to stock retainer max lift is 11.2mm at the valve or .259" cam lobe lift."

I cracked 3 or so retainers using MAP beehive springs and oem retainers. Luckily I caught it in time and didn't drop a valve, promptly replaced with titanium retainers. Change them while you're in there, please.

Oh great! Now I have a warm fuzzy feeling inside, I'm running MAP beehives on OEM retainers.
