I wouldnt let this thread decide for you. Call English Racing / STM / Buschur & discuss your goals w/them & what can be built for power & longevity

There are many, many examples of 500-700 WHP plus builds that work all day long, very well

I wouldn't call it a horrible platform. You just have to except that it's a 2.0L 4 cylinder. It has it's limitations. If you want to daily drive something, or have bullet proof reliability at 900-1000whp. You need to look into adding cylinders to your car choice. GTR, Porsche, Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, etc...

The engine can be plenty strong , but the rest of the drivetrain wears down/breaks depending on how its used. Drag is going to be harder on it then street.
With a Solid tune and aftermarket ECU or at least AFR correction the engine can live for a bit. Alot of people just leave the last two degrees in it not knowing better. There is an Evo in South Florida that has made 800-1000whp for 7 years or so on the same 2.2 engine. Its done alot of Mexico racing and has gone 10.0@155 on the stock bbs wheels with a good street tire. Its taken down alot of faster cars for its power level.

Now,it does have the 4.11 Final drive and that calms the car down traction wise but this car did start to shear the teeth of the gears at higher levels and went to a Drenth gearbox.

I personally think the Evo platform deals with 600whp well and can still be reliable. A reasonable single disk clutch that drives/sounds normal and a simple fuel system. The Trans is also much happier shifting at 8000 then 9500-10000 for a big turbo setup.

Perhaps this was already asked, but why would you go from a 1100hp Porsche to a 800/900hp Evo?

Please tell me of a more reliable 2.0l production block engine @ 800+ horsepower I would like to know?
An 1100hp Porsche is slower that's why! AWD is king on the street.

You really won't find a more reliable platform to build on. If someone can tell me of any stock drivetrain that they actually make a triple disk for let me know. The Evo transmission/drivetrain can handle more torque than the infamous Muncie rock crusher, and that was put behind bigblock V8's! I have pulled numerous transmissions from other vehicles and the sheer weight of the Evo transmission is almost double of most 4/6 cylinder manuals. Aftermarket support for these cars is phenomenal also. All the stuff that breaks can be replaced with a stronger piece if one wishes to do so.
If anyone can tell me of a better 4cylinder platform to build on please do. Maybe I will switch??
BTW all the horsepower in the world will do you no good if your spinning your tires till 60mph. I reckon a 1100hp Porsche gets traction somewhere around there on the street.

So Lyle
I figure you switched because you or someone you know with a BIG Dyno numbers car got spanked by an Evo with a lot less horsepower? Either way it's nice to have ya here, enjoy your Evo! You made the right choice
